For example...on mtbr.com, 2003 hardtails. The average rating is 4.56 out of 5 for all bikes that
had been rated two or more times. 2003 full bouncers average rating is 4.58 out of 5.

Obviously, all bikes are GREAT!

Objective? No. Self validation for dollars spent more like it.

MTBR.com is of course subjective evaluation. But it is information from people that actually bought
and ride these bikes. Sounds like information that is as least as good as any opinion (that's key,
"opinion"😉 that you could possibly read here.

If you read each review, you can gather insights into inherent strengths and weaknesses. These tend
to spread across most reviews for a particular model. As a mathematician, I would put more emphasis
on the reviews that have a greater number of respondents.

IMHO, MTBR.com is possibly the best resource for unsolicited opinion on mountain bikes and
other stuff.

Yea, like I said a lot of opinions. But you can spot trends if there are multiple posts. Same as the
magazine reviews. I don't put much weight into reviews unless an "opinion" is repeated and even then
you have to take it in the context of the whole article.

Check out bikemagic.combikemagic.comOpen ↗] It is a website out of the UK. They have some great
reviews. The best yet on the new XTR and they were the first for the new Trek Fuel 100. It takes
some navigating but they have more comprehensive reviews. Good Luck! Kent

I have to agree with the consensus here. I read for trends and they're usually good indicators of
problem areas. I get much more good info from MTBR than from any magazine that uses the product even
less than the "one week posters" on MTBR! I skip over the raves from people who've only used the
part for a couple of weeks and try to focus-in on why people panned the product and the reviews from
people who've used it for a while.

Trouble is that these twits are excited about their new purchase which is more than likely an
upgrade. Surprise, surprise, it probably _is_ the best bike that they've ever had. So that's gotta
be worth a 5.

Even so, the ratings are pointless unless they come from someone that has experienced other bikes to
be able to compare. There's little merit in giving front shocks a 4.9 rating if you've never ridden
shocks before.

Use mtbr.com as a rough guide, not a bible.
