Motobecane Road Bike?

shimano is very well around so no worries of that albeit sora is the entry level of the entry level line of shimano drivetrain groups. motobecane used to be a great bike when it was french, years ago. now the frames are used to pretty much distribute higher end components. nothing wrong at all with anything shimano but when you get into riding hard and i hope you do and you find out about high end and serious quality components, buy a $2000 + motobecane roadie with dura ace and throw away the frame and buy a good used high end road frame to put that dura ace on and wheelset on. that's what i would do at least.

i've heard both good and bad of the motobecane frame and i'm personally not a fan, except of the old french one i've got sitting around somewhere.

for the money you can't go wrong so i'd buy it and ride it into the ground if i were you. i hope that helps. 🙂

Almost all bicycle frames are made in 3 or 4 factories in Taiwan and main-land China. The quality of frame construction is pretty much the same for each general level of construction; e.g. all entry level bicycle frames are pretty much the same as are all high end aluminum frames. Choose the type of bicycle you want, the amount of money you are willing to spend and then start shopping. You get a lot for your money for this entry level bicycle. You might consider getting a Shimano 105 modified grupo, one step up from Sora. Don't waste your money on Dura Ace. You won't get your money's worth out of it as you just don't have the experience to adequately use the Dura Ace setup.

Alright guys, I think I'm going to order it before they are out of stock, one more question, I'm 14 and 5 foot 8 inches... I'm still growing obviously and was wondering if I should get the 56cm frame or the 54cm frame? Because I'm almost 5" 9' and I think maybe I'd grow into the 56cm. And yes, I am an entry-level cyclist, actually, I've never had a road bike before but would like to get into the sport. Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it. 😎

correction; not the sport, the lifestyle. what's your inseam? as in pant leg length? at 5'8" and growing, your, i'd get the 54 for now, that way you are not having to extend and push the bike.

you might want to think about going to a bike specific store first and getting fit for a bike. they'll take your measurements and let you know. as others have said, the internet fit is not the best fit and although you are not buying from the store themselves and be honest and up front with them about that and what you are doing, they shouldn't have much of an issue in helping you out seeing as how you're gonna need a good bike store relationship now that you are a rider. they may have a fee for that bike fit, but you can call and find out.

that's the best bet, i'd say.

Well then I guess the 9 years of school has paid off so far! So I'll order a 54cm Motobecane Record for $549.99... Hopefully it will arrive next week or so. I'll keep you guys posted on everything.

We still don't know your inseam length so this is all pretty much a guess - I'd buy a 56cm. You have at least one, if not two, growth spurts to deal with. It's safer to lower a seat post than to raise one too high. The other aspects of the bike's geometry will be messed up as well.

This might be stating the obvious, but if you have older siblings, that will be a key to how tall you may eventually grow ...

Also, use your parent's heights to estimate how much taller you may grow ...

If, for example, you have an older brother AND he is the same height as your father (presuming no one is adopted), then that is probably how tall you may eventually grow, too. If you have an older brother AND he is taller than your father, then you probably will be, too.

If your hypothetical older sibling is a sister AND she is taller than your mother, then ... (et cetera).

You could be a couple of inches by next Summer ... and, then a 54cm bike would probably be too small ...

6' 0", and my mother is 5' 5". I don't have any sisters and no one is adopted in my family [Except my cousin, but that doesn't really matter]. Why wouldn't I fit on the 56cm? I mean, I'm almost 5' 9". I haven't purchased it yet, so tell me more bike buying advice. 😄

FWIW/IMO. You should definitely consider the bike with the 56cm frame (56.5cm top tube) rather than the 54cm frame because you will soon be 6'0" tall (unless you are a vegetarian!) ...

BTW. I know at least one person who is in the 6'1" range who feels that a 57cm top tube is more comfortable for him than a frame with a 58cm top tube ... so, the 56.5cm top tube on the 56cm frame will let you ride the Motobecane for several years unless your height eventually exceeds that of your brother's.

Of course, you can make SOME adjustments by varying the length of the stem ... after you grow a few more inches, that is.

The 54cm frame will probably be too small for you before next Summer.

Hello how are you. My inseam is 32" and my height is 5`7" what size bike i have to get. I am looking for road bike and mountain bikes from bikes direct. What is your opinion for this bikes

I understand you're 14 is this correct? if so then I would get a size 58, this will put your crotch really close to the top tube to about 1/2 inch with cycling shoes on but at 14 you will grow so it will fit better as you grow. If you get the next size down you may have to get a new bike in 2 years or less depending on how fast you grow.

If someone else can chime in to show an error in my calculation and offer a better suggestion please do so.

I am sorry i see i comfuse you. I am 47 years old i not really know about bike sizes i try to deside. that bike i have now is 58cm seat tube the top tube is 56 cm. The top tube is horizontal but after that have 2cm more the seat post stop. I not know if i measure where the seatpost stop is 58cm where the top tube end is show 56cm what is correct measurement i not know

I thought I was writing to Cyclist95 who I think is 14, so now I'm confused. Going back to Cyclist95, how long is your inseam??
