I need it! Where do you fine fellows get it?!?

I haven't been out on the bike in *ages* - the last "serious" ride I can
remember doing was a 100K audax around Cambridgeshire. On-road,
    off-road, I don't care which, and I know I'll feel great when I'm out
and after I get back, but I just can't make the first move.

One thing you could try is as soon as you wake up get up, have a light
breakfast and get on your bike before you're concious enough to make
rational thought which may include negative aspects of cycling.
By the time you come round you'll be warmed up and over the initial
stiffness, body and machine in harmony, clear of the most travelled and
likely to be boring local roads and as a bonus watch a new day come to
    life.

I managed to keep cycling all through last winter, but the only
exercise I'm doing at the moment is treadmill and weights which just
doesn't give you that wonderful fresh-air, wholesome, one-with-nature
    feeling that cycling does.

So, how do you motivate yourself onto the bike...?

    Cheers,

Just think "Treadmill & weights, or bike ride?"

Nooooh! not the Treadmill & weights, and the eternal shame of showing
up in our local gym (in a sports car of course) and not having an
    Adonis-like body.

Find a cycling mate and arrange to meet them. Then you
have to go or you let someone else down.

Not a bad idea - I already have a cycling mate, but he's very much a
summer cyclist! I'd have to do some serious persuasion but it's worth a go!

Seems you both may have the same problem, in which case it's entirely
possible that, like you, he just needs a good excuse. Could be a very
good setup for the two of you helping one another over the flat spot.
