Sheesh... I hope they don't check my driving record next time I drive to

they let Karla Homolka out of prison. I suppose Canadian laws have as many
oddities written into them as we do in the US.

I don't particularly care for Martha Stewart's personality but the
crucifixion she's receiving from some quarters it ridiculous IMO. I admire
her accomplishments but I really don't care for the person, if that makes

Makes sense to me. I've met many people that have crossed her path one way
or another. Either worked for her at her estate, worked for the boatyard
that built her yacht, (Ecru paint of course) etc. Not one has a nice word
to say about her.

OTOH, she is a very successful business person. To get that far, you have
to be strong willed and often ruthless in pursuit of your goals. Even her
prison time was figured to be out of the way so she could continue with her
business with no distractions. Sure got her plenty of free publicity. She
did accomplish what she set out to do.

Not so: If a man's public image was one of gentility and homespun charm but

would be pretty much the same. It's all about the difference between the
public persona and the real person.

Casting about for an example, suppose it was revealed that Alan Alda slapped
and otherwise humiliated his housecleaner because she didn't dust underneath
one of his statuettes: Wouldn't you bat an eye?

No, he is not.
I've heard a lot of it before, and it's even been in the news and
celebrity gossip columns.

She is even rude to fans! One of our poultry list members was at a
poultry show a few years ago that Mothra was judging at. His little 12
year old daughter was a fan and she timidly approached her to ask for an
autograph.

Mothra did not even answer her. She gave the child a very dirty scowl
and turned her back on her and crossed over to the other side of the
room. Herb's daughter was crushed.

Mothra is a -horrible- person!

Well, that's part of our difference of opinion right there: I've never found
Martha to have much by way of homespun charm, nor do I think that's the
feeling she was going for. Homespun, to me, is a lot less sophisticated
than many of the things she does. Gentility's up for debate, but I doubt
it's a word she'd apply to herself.

Poor example. Martha hasn't, to my knowledge, been accused of assault and
battery.
