I had no idea my last post on the subject would generate such heated debate. I only meant to share my excitement over the improvement realised by adding straps to my bike. Obviously, there are tradeoffs with both clips and straps as well as clipless. I have found the benefits of straps far outweigh the penalties (for my riding habits and style, anyhow). Unfortunately for me, I have been unable to try clipless pedals, and probably will not have the opportunity for quite some time. In the meantime, here is something to think about:
Oftentimes, as I speed around town on my beater I will race with streetcars or count how many other bicycles I can pass in an hour. Today I was counting how many other riders going clipless I passed :-)

Where are you riding, Scranton PA, well there you go. No real riders here in Durango, just posers riding expensive, silly bikes, complete with clipless pedals.

What's wrong with Scranton, PA? We have our fair share of cyclists, freds, DUI specials, and wrong way sidewalk kids, just like every other town.
Well, except for the fact that the mountain bikers don't like our streets, they're too technical ;-)

I've been down that hill in a car, but never a bike. I've been up and down the hill on the other side of town on 307 on the bike a few times. It's rather exausting. Makes me wish we had some bananas in Scranton, what with the leg cramps that hill causes.
It's funny that nobody ever wrote a song about one of the half dozen trucks that came down that side and smashed into Gabe's Diner.

I'm sorry, you are probably correct. I grew up in Reading and lived in Binghamton for a while, now that I've lived in Colorado for 14 years, I realize how lazy and fat NE PA tends to be. I can say this, I PA dutch!
But there are great athletes in those areas, just not nearly as many as Durango CO.
