  1. So my NB RC950WOs arrived. I decided to perform a small
experiment with the kitchen scale. I weighed all the light
weight racing flats I had around the house.

    NB RC950WO 7 oz
    Adidas Cubato+ 6 1/4 oz
    Brooks T3 6 oz
    Nike Mayfly 4 7/8 oz
    Calgul 980* 2 7/8 oz

These are all in a 10 1/2 (US) size. The Calgul 890 are my
specially modified gymnastic shoew with an extra layer of
leather sole on the bottom (from Tandy Corp). I didn't even
bother to weight the Asics 2090's that I use to referee.
    Compartively they are real clunkers.

I tried a very short (2.5k) run in the Calgul's today, trying
to determine how far they could be used. I think they could
easily be used for a 5 K, and maybe for a 10, but what the heck
I could to that easier barefoot. Probably not worth bothering.

I think I could easily run a half in the Nikes, but squishy
feel of the sole and the flat sole construction. I have the
same "flat sole" problem with the Adidas's. Both the Brooks and
NB have a more "rounded" construction which I like better, with
the NB shape being the best, but from the data above, they are
    easily the heaviest.

    Oh well.

The NBs weigh more since they are new and have more air
trapped inside them. Run in them for a few days and then
repeat your measurements. I'm sure they'll weigh less.

  3. But surely air doesn't weigh much, in any case 50grams more won't improve
your time, it;s more important how comfortable you feel.

Wrong! I weighed them last night. 13 7/8!!!

Twice as heavy as the heaviest alternative.

I would say nice try, but it wasn't.

  12. It was supposed to be a joke.

This was the good part. Of the listed shoes, I would say the fit
and feel were the best. BTW: I have narrow feet. B width with
AA heel. I guess the Brooks are a not to distant second. For non
racing flats, I like the Asics best.

    Are you asking because:
    a) you want to know or
    b) because you want to see if I know?

Nonetheless, it depends on a lot of factors such as altitude,
compression, belief in science, etc. It will be much higher at
sea level than at the top of Mount Sagarmatha. It is much more
inside the tires of my bike. Even more at Mariana Trench. It
will be different inside our heads depending on the color of
our hair. It will be different inside each of us depending on
how much we think of ourselves.

Hope that is good enough for a satisfactory grade 🙂

How will you ever expect anyone to ever take anything you say serious,
even the 1 in 400 that you attempt to be for real? I know, you cut your
shoe in half and why your's weigh in at half the real weight.
    Ding-a-ling.

Well, I guess you would call it a rhetorical question.

And, I must say, a very successful one, judging by the amount
    of rhetoric it generated:

: Nonetheless, it depends on a lot of factors such as altitude,
: compression, belief in science, etc. It will be much higher at

Oh! I'm sure that is MORE than satisfactory!
