  1. Since the topic is up now, and I got up this morning around
2 AM with double and repeated calf cramps, I'll toss another
request for information into the hopper.

We can skip dehydration and lack of carbs as prime explanations
in my case. Probably also the lack of potassium, as I eat
a fair number of bananas, and have recently discovered OJ.
I'm told the latter (in usual dose) tends to carry more K than
    the bananas.

Still, for the first time in ages (years), I had both calves cramp
at the same time, in the same night. Even more unusual (can't
remember it ever happening before), I also had one of them re-cramp
several minutes after it had stopped and I'd gotten to the stage
of walking around (recramped while sitting).

    So, what gives?!

Other item is, what remedies does anybody have for cramping?
My walking is still off, as the calves won't generate their normal
power (the one that recramped is worse, no surprise). Given that
they do happen, what do you do after the fact?

Sounds allot like a problem my mom had years ago. The Doc told her to drink a glass of quinine water before she went to
bed. It was like a miracle for her, YMMV.

    . . .

    Hi Robert,

My wife gets these from time to time. In her case it's not the
    sodium/potassium but calcium/magnesium imbalance that's the culprit.
Consider magnesium citrate supplements? Or are you overdoing on a calcium
    supplement?

    Good luck!

    Robert,

If all the other suggestions don't do the trick, I'd look at a few
    different things:

    1. How tight, if you use a top sheet/blanket, are the sheet and blanket
tucked in at the foot of the bed? I use a down comforter at home and
when at a hotel, I always have to untuck the top bed sheet/blanket from
the foot of the bed as they...cause my legs to cramp at night.

    2. Have you changed or added more blankets to your bed?

    3. If your shins are tight then the calves are having to work against a
semi-relaxed shin which can create the calf cramps if you sleep with
foot extended. Loosen the shins and the calves can once again relax as
    you sleep.

    4. Were you doing something different this week that would have
tightened up the shins so that when you go to sleep on your side or
stomach with your feet extended or if on your back with the sheets
weighing down on your feet and extending the semi tight shins...the
    calves will react.

Inquiring minds want to know if it isn't something to do with the
    electrolyte balance.

  6. Botox injected directly into the muscle in question.

    was ready for???
