  1. Cleaned out the fridge last week. Found the container of topping I had
    prepared for an apple crisp that never got made. The usual...flour,
    cinnamon, oats, butter, sugar.

    That ought to be ok to use now, don't you think? Or should I dump it and
    start over?

    As long as it doesnt small rancid, it's probably fine.

    If the container was sealed you're ok.

    If the container was not sealed then the ingredients have picked up unwanted
    flavors and should be thrown out.

    If it looks okay and smells okay then it IS okay. Oats can go rancid
    and so can butter, but that's the only problem you'd be likely to have
    unless water got into the container and it started to grow mould (
    then it'd be a big mess and obviously unusable!)
