I've got a new SRAM PC-69 chain that I want to use but it's about 4-6 links too short. Can I make up
the difference by using some links from a new PC-59 chain or is there some reason that it won't work
or shouldn't be done. Thanks in advance.

I wish (I'm dying to get a 'bent). Actually I bought the chain new (114 links) only to find that
it's too short for my touring bike. The chain on it currently is 120 links long. The bike's got a 50
tooth big chainring and an 11-32 cassette. Was I ripped off with the chain or is that the standard
length? Thanks for your help, by the way.

try it! theory is all 8 sppeds go on 8 gears and ditto 9 speeds except for IG's CR's that probably
shud be used with IG chains but IG chains can be used with regular shaped CR's and gear clusters
something like that. a slight wear diffreential may be noticed under individually specific riding
habits visavee shifting nad staying in maybe lower ghear ranges. however. you may find that the
attachment points wear ayt different rates than the other links. but wear iot out if its on hand but
if a skip developes check the attachement points

Are you sure you actually need 120? In my limited experience, chains usually have 116 links.
There is one issuing with adding links -- with 9-speed chains you're not supposed to re-use the
pins. But I don't think there'd be any problem with adding links with a powerlink.

The new chain should be of adequate length. There are various methods for determining correct chain
length but I'd say the most important thing is to make sure that running the 50-32 combination
(largest sprocket front and rear) does not stretch the derailleur to the point of destroying it (and
possibly the frame and wheel as well).

On my triple chainring tour bike I use a PC59 chain and added about six links from leftover from a
Campy 10 speed chain. It works without a hitch.
