Yes, chainline may or may not be a problem.
Also, the bearing ridges on the different spindles may be
spaced differently. They tend to be farther apart on French
and Italian stuff. This will affect the available thread
engagement of the adjustable cup and lockring.
However, I strongly advise against the use of caged bearings
with fewer than 11 balls. Loose is better.

Some people make a big deal out of the slight
thickness/length difference between ISO and JIS
spindles, but in my experience this is rarely a serious
problem in practice.
