  1. Three months ago, my doctor told me I should look into getting a bike. Two months ago, I bought a
Giant Cypress ST, had a rack put on, and started riding regularly as I can (allowing for
    work/school/two kids, etc.)

I've been riding it every chance I get... back/forth to school (about 15lbs of books in the rack
    trunk), on weekends, etc....

I stepped on a scale earlier today.

I seem to have misplaced 15 pounds. Missing. Gone.

Normally, I get rather frustrated when I misplace things, like my keys. Few things are more
aggravating than having a nice day to ride slipping away as you look for keys to unlock the
garage, in order to get to the bike. But this missing weight? I'm not going to worry about it for
    the time being.

I think my neighbor found your missing weight. I lost about 30 pounds, and I think he found
    mine also.

    Congrats.

it's in the refigerator .. just keep looking. it's in there somewhere, look near the ben & jerrys.
you may also find it in the bottom of a six pack of guinness. it may also help to stop biking until
you locate it, tho, strictly speaking i'm sure that's not necessary.

i wouldn't worry about it, either. some things are better lost (saves you having to throw them out).

except for the guinness. it's worth getting fat over guinness.

I think I found it. Do you want it back? I'm not sure if I can give it back, but I'd be
    willing to try...

  5. Keep going! My doctor told me the same thing about six months ago. Since then, I've misplaced 40lbs.
I know I won't be looking for it either!

Should you ever change your mind there are numerous public service announcements on television that
may help you recover your missing property, and then some, courtesy of the fast food industry.

You probably dropped on the road somewhere. I'd get on my bike and retrace some of those rides,
especially the harder ones. That's usually when one stops paying attention to little details and
    loses something.

I gained about 15 because of a thyroid condition. It doesn't sound like a lot but on me, it is. I
gained a whole pant size. I lost some last summer, and then over the winter put on a couple. This
year, I lost the rest, so now I've lost the whole 15 pounds and I am back where I used to be! And
not only pounds but inches. The size 9 pants I tried on and bought in june are LOOSE on me! (9 in a
canadian size, that is, I know american sizes are a bit different).

Yep, I'm with you all, some thigns are better staying lost. Let's just hope we don't look behind us
and find it was simply MISPLACED!

my SO lost about 40, but it seems to have found it's way to his brother's gut. He's starting to look
    like teletubbie.

  10. Get in your car and DRIVE -- don't run, walk, or bike -- DRIVE -- to the nearest Kwik-Stop. Fill up
the trunk of the car -- or bed of the pickup if you have one -- with beer, chips, and dip.

Drive home, sit in front of the tube, eat and drink it all.

Repeat this, weighing yourself every couple of days.

Through in a gallon or two of ice cream for variety.

Guarantee you'll find the missing 15 pounds.

  11. Happened to me too. Just I misplaced 80lbs and somehow found an entire closet of clothes that are
way too big. Damn cycling is expensive. When you factor in the cost of new clothes, shoes, tubes,
cassettes, derailleurs, lights, racks, panniers, sunglasses, unicycles, race entry fees etc.

When it comes to weight gain, it's in the jeans or genes or both.

Congratulations on ditching the pounds! Don't go looking for it..it knows where you are & who you
are. Those fat cells are always lying in wait to fill back up...the nasty little devils!

LOL, the same happened to a friend. He is a type 2 diabetic and lost about 45 pounds, but when he
started cycling he hadn't lost all the weight. Now he has all these jerseys which are HUGE. Thanks
to cycling, though, he's not only kept off the weight but has avoided going on meds.

  18. Aye mate, I'll put on a pound or two in the name of Arthur Guinness! About attitude, if you're going
to ride in the road it is imperative that you ride on it like YOU own it. Screw the drivers who
don't like it! I can't tell you how many finger pointing pukes I've invited to get out of their cars
only to have them refuse the invitation and drive their fat coward asses off in a hurry. The lazy
    twit [censored]!

I've only had two comments from drivers that I could consider 'rude' in the past three months...

However, I think I'll pass on inviting any of the local drivers to get out of their car to discuss
things--- there are historically few violent car-bike encounters here, but an inordinately large
amount of armed drivers. I don't feel like becoming a statistic this lifetime, thanks.
