From my experience with the Minoura 850D Rim drive:
will take road & MTB rims, which could be useful for some
Won't wear your tyres and is gentle on rims
No road feel (you will be left in no doubt you're on a trainer)
Fairly quiet when in use
Also, don't bother with the remote control version as you can use your
bike's gears to vary the resistance.
I have the remote control wheel drive Minoura.
I find the remote control very helpful when the Spinerval tape has you
stand up to pedal.
I need more resistance when I am standing up, and can immediately crank
it way up so that I can do the pedaling correctly.
Incidentally, the 52 member trainer support group is doing excellently,
with some really good discussions.
I have been told to stay away from the rim trainers as they have a problem with putting pressure on the rim resulting on the wheel going out of true.
anyone have any experiences with this?

A question. What does the remote control do beyond what shifting gears
would do?( I don't mean this as a challenge- just a question) I have
only ridden fluid trainers and have found that if I adjust the tension
on the tire correctly that the range of resistance I get from shifting
is pretty large. Does the ability to adjust the trainer vs. the bike
improve the experience?
Just wondering as now that I live in southern AZ my time on the trainer
is pretty minimal.

I am a pretty big Clydesdale type of guy. I weigh about 215. Perhaps
that is the difference - my weight needing more resistance??
When the video asks me to stand in perhaps a big ring/15 combination,
the resistance I use for the rest of the video is simply not enough. I
really need more resistance to peddle effectively - other wise I just
sort of flop around. This may be one of the differences between a
fluid trainer and a mag??
Anyway, that is what I need.
Thanks for the inquiry.

Thanks for the reply. I really don't have enough expereience with
trainers to understand the various pros and cons. Thankfully I don't
need to use them that often ;-)
