I'm a Freire fan so I say this with some regret: what's

Nice, fantastic, super, cool, etc., etc. When you have to
race 300 km and do not win yourself, it's so very good when
a team mate wins. I mean Oscar and on him we gambled,

Oscar number one. Today a super start of the season just
continued into San Remo. Also, Oscar is now leader in the

before the Cipressa I had some mixed feelings when we passed
the spot where I fell 2 years ago and broke my hip. A
peculiar moment. But I never had it on my mind. I really
didn't have the feeling it went very well, but after the
team dropped me off perfectly at the foot of the Cipressa, I
just 'happened' to take the lead and all of a sudden I rode
in front. A few moments later Wesemann joined me and
together we rode to the top on reserve (well I did anyway).
Surprise was my main emotion. After the descent I noticed
that quite a few riders had fallen behind already and
apparently the climb had not been very slow! I decided to go
again on the Poggio. Until 500m under the top we stayed in
front with three. In the last kilometer I was able to
deliver Oscar to Zabel's backwheel and sprint to 11th
myself. Didn't you feel sorry for Zabel that he thought he'd
won? NOT! By the way, until now I had not dared to say it,
but I should no longer beat around the bush: I'M BACK! It's
official! Monday I'll start in the Catalan Week. Five days
of preparation for Flanders' Finest!

Freire little experience on the track of the Ronde. He will
have to compensate this and i think this will mean he
probably will be more tired in the final then the real
Flanders specialists.
