Looks like Alessandro Petacchi will take it this
year by the way he's riding over in the
Vuelta a Andalucía this week.
Cadel Evans is really on form as well.
Erik Zabel and Andreas Klöden are looking
lean and mean over in the Volta ao Algarve.
I think Boonen made a mistake doing Qatar
and California this year.

the Lungomare Italo Calvino this year.

It looks like the sharp left hand turn is about 400-500 meters
from the finish. That's far enough out that ordinarily the leaders
will get around the sharp turn in one piece. However, if
nobody informs Boonen that there is a left hand turn, the
odds of a stackup are significantly higher.
The final straight run in to the finish is shorter than it was
along the Via Roma, so positioning before that sharp
turn will be more important. If you're too far back it
will not be possible for teammates to move you up on the
straight.
The base of the Poggio is a few km from the finish, right?
So a couple of extra turns and another hundred meters
makes it no more likely that a soloist will stay away.

If there is 1 thing absolutely sure: Gilbert will attack on the
Poggio. He had a winter without injuries and he already was "hors
categorie" at the challenge mallorca. What he did last year with
Riccò, he will do better this year. He certainly is one of the main
favourites for next week's Omloop Het Volk.

F. Schleck will open the ball a tad too early on Cipressa and go again
on Poggio as in the two previous editions. However he will be caught
right before the top of Poggio as usual because of his efforts on
Cipressa.
