  1. I have recently had two missiles thrown at me from youths in passing cars on
the A56 at Frodsham in Cheshire.

The first, about a month ago involved a pint glass being thrown which
shattered a metre in front of me.The second was today (Sun) when a full
bottle of Fanta Orange was thrown hitting me in the back resulting in a
    large bruise.

As both vehicles were traveling at speed I was unable to get either
registration number. If I had been successful, I doubt if the police would
have been interested in such a "minor" crime and would be unlikely to even
issue a caution let alone a prosecution.
I have heard of other similar incidents and wonder if this is becoming the
"in thing" for young idiots with more petrol than sense.
Has anyone else had any similar experiences?

I reported to the police that a passenger in an NTL van - I got the
reg no. - flicked his [censored] end at me as his driver drove by.

In another incident, when overtaking a queue of slow moving traffic, I
sucessfully patted a [censored] end back through the open window of a
stationary vehicle. All I saw over my left shoulder was the driver
anxiously looking down in the region of his crotch.

The beat officer phoned me back and left a message saying he'd call
again. He never did. I never persuded the matter.

Report it to NTL; they'll be a lot more excited about it than the filth.
Especially if you're an NTL customer.

NTL. Don't get me started! Oops, too late. The only twunt ever to manage
to knock me off my bike in 21 years of cycling around London was an NTL
van driver. They shafted my cable TV service too - which I thought
couldn't be done a second time after Cable and Wireless took over
Videotron. IME NTL make Clarkson and Murdoch look like angels.

I had Videotron installed 16 years ago - I remember seeing the
beginning of the First Oil War on CNN. I cancelled the subscription
12 years ago when I moved away to take my degree. When I moved back
home I never saw the need for a subscription service, and with
freeview I can watch the news to my heart's content. I do miss the
    Discovery Channel, however.

I'm fairly sure I saw all the CNN coverage of that one as my employer at
the time was on something called black special alert...

Some people in the next valley to me can actually get freeview now!

I heard a story from a fellow cyclist years ago who, after receiving a
full and recently opened can of cola to his head, got the rage on and
chased the perpetrator for several miles through London. The passenger,
who had thrown the projectile kept looking back and eventually when the
car came to a halt at some traffic lights stuck his head out of the
window just in time to receive a Kryptnite lock travelling at twenty
miles per hour around his chops. I would have put a window in but each
    to their own.

As I sent in a couple of months ago.............. attacked by masked youths
carrrying co2 fire extinguishers (reported to the Police), fortunately I
closed my eyes as they let them off.
I have had apples thrown at me (hitting frame) an egg (hitting elbow).
Many other unidentifiable objects aimed at me. Hit on the back/arm by
passing passengers in cars and also by passengers on motorcycles And of
course the usual scream from a passenger as they pass you (about 5 times a
week). I ride home from work about 11.00 pm.when it is dark and that is when
the cretins come out to play.

Agreed - when I have been a victim of poor driving where an identifiable
company vehicle is involved (not always as a cyclist) I have always tried
to contact the company. Large companies will probably have a Transport
Manager who will be very interested.
If you are concerend about sounding like a 'whinging cyclist' I am aware
of a tactic / lie that can be used - "I was driving along High Street and
saw your van driver nearly kill a cyclist by ... " - that is you report
it as as though you were not the victim but an enraged 'fellow' motorist.

NTL though - don't get *me* started on *them*

    Nasty!

Worst I've had was a Newcastle Brown bottle thrown at me at night. Luckily
the div's aim was off and the bottle skittered across the road. I shouted
some choice abuse and they stopped, so I jumped off my bike, grabbed the
bottle (still intact - gotta love Newcastle Brown bottles!) and they looked
out of the car window, flipped me and drove off!

I've also had a [censored] end flicked at me as I overtook a 2CV crawling down a
    country lane. Sour grapes methinks.

    Cheers,
    Jim

My wife and I narrowly avioded personal injury when a brick was thrown
at us on our tandem. Brick hit the rear wheel rim and not us,
    fortunately.

I don't think I will EVER understand the mentality that does that sort
    of thing.

And did NTL? Especially if Tom's a customer, phone up and cancel and
    explain exactly why 🙂

    "cuz its a laff innit"

Personally I think such actions (and other extreme anti-social behaviour)
should be considered an act of terrorism.

I feel my life is more under threat by chavs than islamic fundamentalists
(and I probably have a tiny degree of sympathy for the latter after the
carry on in Iraq, whereas the former are just scum).

    Cheers

    where to cycle)

Wow - where do you live? Remind me not to move there.

I've never had anyone throw stuff at me, or attempt to hit me. I have
had a few morons yell stuff at me (sometimes obscenities or sometimes cycle
path) but that is probably only a couple of times a year.

    Gaulloises?

What is it with [censored] ends? I get those flicked at me all the time. I suppose
they don't have enough ammo to carry out "aiming off and miss drills" so
they usually land just in front of me. Occassionally a good enough shot to
get a leg, and I don't monitor if they ever hit my back. But it certainly is
    becoming very popular.

Luckily, I'm that sweaty I extinguish them on contact, but rude none the
    less.

  18. Yea, eggs, abuse (from oncoming drivers!), lumps of stuff.
Like another writer said, passenger behaviour plummets after 8.00 p.m.
P'raps there should be an Iq test for passengers.

I've had all sorts of thing thrown at me, empty beer bottles, used
Mcdonalds wrappers, half a chicken curry (!) etc, and not just while on
the bikes, but also while walking home from a night out. I reckon its
just random yobbishness on the part of said Chavs, and there's no real
intent beyond the "its a laff, innit?" as has been said elsewhere in
    this thread.

Summer seems to breed more of them, it seems...

Cycling home late one night a wandering pikey heaved a half-brick at me.
Fortunately, I was wearing a h+lm+t, so he missed.
