Well, it's here. The dreaded mid-season slump. In the past month or so, I've seen a significant decrease in motivation/speed/power. Guys I used to crush, left me in the dust today. Granted it was one of the first truly hot days we've had, and was quite windy, but these guys shouldn't be able to drop me. I took a long pull into the wind and my HR never really recovered. On the last 3/4 of the ride, they just rode off and left me (they did turn around and cut wind for me all the way how.) I was totally out of gas. They were just as puzzled as I was (as I'm often of the front setting pace with this group). "Dude what happened?", "Are you OK?" etc. I did beat the guys on the first two sprints. Go figure. To add insult to injury, I left my towel at home, and had to drip dry....
I've already cut my miles back quite a bit this month (lack of motivation), so I don't think the usual "time off the bike" is the solution. I'm thinking what I really need is a bunch of "easy" miles. Something where my HR isn't at 90%+. I did have fun on my MTB over the weekend. I'm also thinking about starting to commute by bike a few days a week. I would most likely interval train indoors on those day in addition to simply riding. I've have a few early season goals that I've completed but nothing is currently on the radar screen (and that could be part of my lack of motivation).
Any suggestions?
