Haven't heard that one before...
So far in my search, I've come up with a few other leads. I'll
pass them along here in case someone else is in need:
There is, of course Ecospeed and Cyclone. As well, I have found
the Electro-Cycle E-4, the eLation and an as-yet unnamed local (to me)
offering from www.zoombicycles.com. All but Ecospeed utilize a small
planetary-geared hub as the drive. eLation is New Zealand based.
Deep in the Google search I was doing I found this little site
that might help a homebuilder; www.superkids.com Here you will find
various surplus motors (Currie type) for quite low prices.
While I like the Ecospeed from a design standpoint, I feel it is
grossly overpriced - especially when they offer the gear reduction
unit for about $500 less sans motor and I see the motors on the
superkids site for less than $100...

If you want some good information about electric drive bikes, I recommend
www.recumbents.com A site that has real information and photos of real
projects, and not the bleating of uninformed clueless drones looking for tea
and sympathy from other psychologically tragic and needy who's empty lives
revolve around reading and writing about the 'recumbent experience.'

On the other hand, that same BROLie 'recumbent experience' can be a fun read
every now and then. And those guys do stimulate the economy, especially
that of the high end recumbent bike industry.

Yes, now that you explain the abbreviation, I have been to the BROL
site numerous times. Not very helpful except as a source of amusement
and maybe for reviews of products/bikes.
The recumbents.com site was much better for what I was looking for.
During a subsequent search I was doing, I came across Cyclone Taiwan's
website. Seems to be almost identical to Cyclone USA's website, except
that the Taiwan supplier ships worldwide and charges less. USA ships
only within the country.

How good are BROL reviews when the companies making the bikes support the
site with ad money. Is the reviewer going to say that a sponsored bent is
[censored]? The reviews are a mediocre read at best, and at worst they are
pandering drivel. Additional revenue at BROL is garnered by selling the
reviewed bikes. Who would buy a test bike that came with an unflattering
review?

I used to have a bicycle [1] that was reviewed by BROL, and my review
would have been MUCH LESS positive than the one that was published.
Emphasize the good points, while ignoring or glossing over the flaws
appears to be editorial philosophy.
