I once owned a black cat (or she owned me) for over 16 years. She was *very* smart. However, my present two cats don't seem any less so. Maybe I'm just lucky to get smart cats. :-)

We recently got a beautiful young black cat - and yes, she is very smart. She had a litter of kittens under the canoe stored behind our garage (very protected). Her babies were in wonderful shape, she wasn't. She knew as soon as we offered food that we were OK. She also knew enough to suck up to our big (neutered) tom cat when we moved them all into the house. She's a wonderful addition to the household (as are those of her babies we couldn't part with).
