met helmets - opinions

I know what the Stradavarius is named after, and I worked out what the
Ippogrifo is, but what is the Scatto named after?

I have the Ippo. I like it, but it's just a helmet. The padding at the front will come loose eventually, but it's not really noticeable to me. The Strada is more expensive because it has more air vents and is probably lighter due to that fact. It makes fsck all difference IMNSHO.

Just make sure whatever you buy fits your head!!

The cheaper model METs didn't fit mine. The Gyros were a better fit for me than MET but more expensive and not Aus approved so I went MET.

I've got a 'Stradivarius 11' I picked up on ebay from Singapore, at about half the retail in Oz. I love it. Not only does it have extra vents over conventional helmet styling, but the vents are 'channelled' to delivery the airflow to the head. For a guy who struggles with sweat dripping down his head all the time, anything is a help!. I like the idea of the 'Ippo' with that mesh inside the vents to keep the larger bugs out. I've had a wasp sting on the 'bonce' before, after it got caught in my helmet....not to mention the suicidal moths that are attracted to the light when training at night. But...like Hippy says....get the helmet that fits properly & is comfortable,

I second the mesh - never mind the crazy bugs - even a bit of tree is annoying when it falls through! Anyways get whatever matches your swanky flash european cycling uniform and of course get one that looks faster. Studies have shown that fast looking helmets decrease your 1km ride by 0.1 seconds - just imagine the time saved over 2 km! Must be about 0.2 seconds +/- 10 sec due to measurement error. Also, the red ones knock another 0.05 seconds off per km (+/- 5 sec).

Bugger! so did I. If I had listened/read your PhD i wouldnt have bothered 'testing' mine 🙄

Got me second one. would love some way to limit the 'venting' on it during winter as its a 'bit too good' at doing that when its sub-5deg and going downhill. If Im gonna get an ice-cream headache i want some feckin ice cream involved!!!

theres something that i *never* considered. though i do usually wear a
bandanna under my helmet. i'm actually leaning towards the ippogrifo,
anyway going shopping tomorrow morning so i'll be able to use it in
tomorrows crits.

Hey!

Some of my best friends are cats!

We tried a few of the Met range of helmets and found the Fith Element to be the most comforable. The visor comes in handy when cycling in hot weather but it might not looks quiet so cool if your racing. They let in lots of air, a bit to much at the moment as I need a beani to kep the scone warm enough.
The retension webbing is very easy to adjust if you are wearing different things underneath such as a bandana headset etc.

I wear a very thin windstopper headband or cap if it's really cold,
under the helmet, of course 🙂

ive got a strad ver 1, which i picked up cheap as the new model wasnt far away

i would have got the ippo, but the new seasons colours are pretty gay, and the silver ones in my size were only $20 than the strad, so i went the better model.

it cools very well. yet to crash test it

met apparently have one of those crash replacement policies, so if u stack, you can get a new one and a discounted rate

Yes, they do. My replacement was about $130, from memory. MET
aren't the only helmet manufacturer to do this though.

i ended up getting the strad v1, bike barn at liverpool are running them
out at $139. choice of colours was red, blue or very bright yellow. all
a bit scary really.

bargain!!! I gots a strad 1, about 2 months ago but mine cost $195 (well, it cost the insurance Co that much...).
