  1. Does anyone have experience/recommendations for Messenger Bags?

I've looked at Chrome and Timbuk2 selections but haven't decided. Aside from
work/play items, it would need to accommodate a 12"wide x 9.5"high laptop on
    occasion.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

I've had a Timbuk2 for 8 years. I've actually messengered with it with
insanely heavy loads. Doesn't show a lick of wear other than a bit of
UV fading and staining of the interior from various leaky thermoses.
The Chrome line looks nice as well. I'd shop on color and price. I
think the Chrome bags look cooler. If you don't have a case for your
lappie, it might be worth looking for a bag that's got a special
compartment for such an application to keep it from sliding around.

After a few years of commuting with a messenger bag, I switched to a
single briefcase style pannier (Carradice Bike Bureau in my case). Much
more comfortable and much easier on my back. I suppose if I did more
walking with the bag and less cycling I would still be using the
    messenger bag.

The current version of the Patagonia Critical Mass messenger bag has a
laptop pocket, FWIW. Ortlieb makes a soft laptop case that is intended
for their briefcase pannier, but works very well in my Carradice.

But so many freakin' pockets. I love the simplicity of the Timbuk2.

    Lemond.

It will fit a laptop, but of course you probably want to also have the
laptop in on of those stretchy padded covers.

I've had mine for about a year or so, and it's been fine, and it's a
    good price.
