i am big build as i do weights, not too big, 6ft 1" &
15 stones.
Some days my regular run goes ok, but others i get
serious mental fatigue, aching leggs & wanting to stop,
serious lacking in energy. What could cause this, is it
good to have a high carb meal a fiew hours before, or
should i just push myself more. I run or cycle most days,
but running a short time is more beneficial & fat burning
than cycling. Fat burning is what i want! & anxiety
relief! Gary
Gary,
well, you'd think the exercise would help the depression,
but i guess that's not always the case.
aching legs aren't "mental fatigue", but if you keep wanting
to stop for other reasons, then yes, you've got a mental
roadblock to running. try to analyze what's making you feel
this way. is it just the way your body feels when you run...
is that what gets you down and wanting to quit? or are there
other issues in your life (and mind)?
as for lack of energy, don't stock up too much on carbs
every day just for a run. i just have a reasonable sized
meal of some carbs, protein, fibre, the usual... a few hours
before a workout. that's plenty of time to let that digest
and fuel the run.
it's great that you have variety in your schedule. i, too,
cycle and run (and swim), and i find the mix keeps things
fun and fresh. i rarely feel stale anymore.
your anxiety relief just may not be cured by the exercise.
the workouts may certainly reduce this feeling, but won't
necessarily make it go away. seek other ways to clear your
mind, solve problems, etc. maybe some counselling? a friend,
family member....
best of luck,
Cam
