  1. Folks, anything to choose between Memory map and Anquet , wondering
which to go for for walking, re-tracing , and recording routes ? Any
other mapping progs. options to consider, will be loaded onto a pocket
    pc with GPS function.
    Regards.

I prefer the way that Anquet works and it doesn't suffer from the
performance problems that MM v4 had (fixed in V5?). Anquet has better
    route re-usability.

On the other hand the PPC function of Anquet is very limited. You can
store a map and route and do live tracking but you can't make new or
amend routes etc. - You can with MM tho.

Download a demo of both and try them.

Either way, budget for GPSU (www.gpsu.com) so that you can use routes
available throughout the net in these and other formats.

I agree. Once you've created a load of paths in an area it's very quick to
    create and modify routes.

I don't use PPC or GPS so can't comment.

Anquet does have pretty good hard copy printing (including an algorithm to
use the least number of sheets) and the facility to export route data as a
csv file enabling loading into a spreadsheet for hours of fun.

Definitely. Have a look at Tracklogs too (though I plumped for Anquet out of
    all 3).

CORRECTION - The URL for "GPS Utility" (GPSU) is www.gpsu.co.uk - not
    as referenced above.

GPSU allows the easy interchange of your GPS data (waypoints, routes
and tracks) between many file formats and applications (including
Memory Map, Anquet, Tracklogs, Fugawi, GIS apps etc.). You can also
use it converting your data between different datums/coordinate grid
systems and for converting tracks to routes and vice versa. For more
    details, please see www.gpsu.co.uk/features.html.

    Oops!

btw - keep up the good work Alan - I especially like the Google Earth
    export function.

Please , please, please let it include Pocket PC support and GPX file
    compatability.

How'd they get to version 6 from 1.2 tho? Shades of Microsoft Office
here - it used to jump several versions at once. Is this just because MM
    are on version 5?
