Yes, just got mine. It was a surprise to see about 5 couples from MBTC
pictured in various sections, and the club referred to as performing as good
as dating agencies. Now that's a new membership line. ;-)

Which 'couple of us' were you referring to?

I read that originally as "is moi and bikesoiler", so when I got home
and looked, I thought "eh? Changed hair colour and style?! And
bikesoiler has done... something!" 🙂

Yeah, can't be either of us, Mr Soilers much taller, and I'm much much shorter. And I'm not a blonde either.

Was a bit dissappointed with the BV invented cycling in the 70's approach of the magazine, people did ride there bikes before that surprisingly and I would be surprised if MBTC is the oldest cycling club in Melbourne (but the older ones may be r*cing ones).

If you look closely, there's a 14T on the front of ma cowboi hat. Actually Mr Soiler rode thru SA & QLD, and he's looking decidely tanned, trim & musclely after cycling 2000+km. Good work on the funding, our *little project* is going to take some major state funding to happen. Must keep up the community pressure/lobbying. 🙂

nah, youre goin about it ALL wrong!

Hire bobcat for a day (I'll volunteer for that! ultimate powertool usage)
reverse ute up to Bunnings and get enuff concrete mix and 2-be-4 to build our own! After all, that's how the goat-track got built at chandler steps.
Some wood-ducks (apologies to all mtbers) built it themselves and then ParksVic 'fixed' it

I'll bring the hammer and beer fridge 😄

and the couch...

Um, er, FD, there at least 100 tonne of concrete down there, a unstable riverbank and a ruddy great big Peppercorn tree barely hanging on by it's tippie-toes. We also require seasoned timber for the ramps, ie: similiar design to Walmer St. Logistics, R&D?

MBTC was founded in 1973, and as far as I'm aware it is the oldest of
Melbourne's cycle-touring clubs. There are, no doubt racing, clubs older
than this.

Slight correction. I joined in its first year when it used to meet in
the old Environment Centre ( William St. ???) and at that stage it was
Action Unlimited and wasn't a purely cycling based club. I can't
remember when it became the MBTC the old brain's faded a bit since then.

Ahhhh those were the days - even the "easy" trips were bloody hard. Ask
Cara about her first imperial century....:-)

I only did the metric century that day but it was HOT and hilly with a
howling northerly. Quite a few people who did the imperial century were
NOT impressed. It was my first century of any description and it was
NOT a pleasant experience....:-) From memory it was around the Toolangi
area - I _may_ have the map around here SOMEwhere it's just a question
of exactly WHICH where.

Nope. No-one else did either - no energy...:-) Besides drivers were
much better behaved then. Then being the mid '70's.

I'll have to try and organise a work free Thursday night and get the
Old Grey Bike to haul me down to an MBTC meeting. At least I'll get to
