i can see lots of people riding ove rthe grass rather than do that. hills-phobic people... 🙄

PS is trail rebuild between StKevins/Gardiner Bridge and Monash offramp complete yet?

It wasn't on Saturday morning. There is a gravel surface, 3m wide, about 100mm below where the path should be.

Yep. My only roadbike crash that I can remember (the other one, I
can't remember 🙂 ) was on one of those wooden bridges, in the wet ....

hehe. the steel-plate surface on the Fairfield pipebridge is much more 'interesting' on cold/damp/wet mornings

or a personal favourite, those alrge steel plates (6x12ft) they use to temporarily cover roadworks. Like 'Cycling on Ice'

Which are against the guidelines everyone's supposed to be working
to.

I'll have to track down the reference, but theoretically if you report
that as a hazard to the council they have to rectify it. If it is
reported and they don't, then they are liable for the next poor
[censored] who falls off. And as it's against guidelines they are
probably liable even if not reported.

but reporting it's a good thing because they have to go through
motions and councils hate that! Letters go on file and have to be
answered, and once it's in the filing system it's there forever.

Writing to local papers whinging about how the council can't read the
guidelines and is too useless to follow them is good too, if you get
published then the "please explains" fly about.

Ah, I love those signs...

I'm particularly bemused by the one on the Gipps St Bridge - A nice wide bridge and I don't think I've ever seen a cyclist dismount (I know I don't)... Having 'dismount' bridges on primary bike routes seem a little odd to me. Do make sure to be extra polite to peds there though.

I never dismounted on the Fairfield pipe bridge either as in my view 'rider next to bike' took up more space the the bike itself. Always rode carefully though and stopped when peds needed to get through. Too bad if you wanted to take a trailer or bent on that bridge.

ahha, ja .. big tramtracks without chanels. Not too bad, as long as
you don't try and stop/turn/accelerate/deviate from straight line or
alter course at all 🙂
