I am trying to limit my meat intake, but unfortunately,
meat is the only food that really gives me that "full"
feeling. What are some other foods besides meat that can do
the trick?

It is probably fat in meat that does as you mention, craving
fat is proabbly a genetic thing for humans. In many areas
fat is a relativily rare thing and a craving for it spurs
humans to seek it when possible. One can add fat in the form
of oils, I would suggest those of the mono variety, but sat
fat is fine in moderation with the poly unsaturated oils in
the middle of the range. Avoid completely fats formed by
hydrogenation of veggie oils,ie. margarine and found in many
prepared foods.Quoted message said:

Try beans - particularly as in Mexican food - beans &
cheese. This'll give you the protein that you got in the
meat. If you're trying to wean yourself off meat, do it
gradually by cutting back a little more each week so that
your system & stomach have time to adjust. Substitute high
fiber foods (ie, beans, whole grain pasta & rice) for the
meat and it'll ease the transition. Then you'll gradually
not need to have that 'full' feeling, rather, you'll feel
satisfied and not hungry.Luke Floyd said:

simple metabolic fact that it takes longer to digest fats
than it does carbs, so it makes sense that fats keep you
feeling full longer. -

from food. Only problem is that it lasts only one or two
hours - and then you have to supply more carbs.... (as soon
as previous portion is safely stored as fat, which goes
really fast in case of mashed potatoes, rice or pasta).Mirek

Try Atkin's or other low carb diets. Meat does not give
you the "full" feeling and you will be hungry shortly
again. Bread and starchy carbs will give you that
"stuffed" feeling. If that isn't enough try mixing your starches and proteins
and fats together...like chilli and beans. The gas is proof."erkon" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

Don't be ridiculous. Where did you pick up this nonsense?
Bread and starchy carbs will begin (or continue) an endless
cycle of cravings and hunger that leads to obesity.
Proteins will provide important (read essential protein)
nutrients to replenish the bulk of your bodies tissues, the
fat (read essential fatty acids) will help satiate you and
nourish you.Bread and starchy carbs will provide a few nutrients but
certainly not all that many and it will not satiate you
unless the grains are wholegrains and/or eaten with fat
(butter?). The starches and grains must be eaten with fat to
minimize the glyceamic load, else it will cause carb
cravings while causing you to be hungry very quickly after
consumption.Fat and proteins are the keys to satiation and good
nutrition. Grains and starchy foods are entirely superflous
to good diet and health.TC

I've been eating high-fat, moderate-protein, low-carb now
for over 3 years. I lost 20 lbs in about 4 months and my
weight has been steady at about 182 ever since. I am never
hungry. I always have energy. My blood lipids are normal. I
do all the cooking in the house and all the nutrition
research. We eat very little grain products and few
potatoes. The carbs that we eat are healthy wholefood fruits
and veggies.I talk the talk AND I walk the walk. My point of view is
based on real world observations, not some esoteric concepts
involving silly personal freedoms of animals or some utopic
frutopian nonsense. I've got both feet firmly planted on
terrafirma.TC
