Ok! I Am very happy to give you my recipe for idromele.
    I will translate ASAP

All this talk of mead had me wondering what it was. A google gave a few
good sites. The mead looks quite nice! Is it a stong flavour?

That depends very heavily on the mead you get, how its made, what sort
of honey is used, etc. It's like asking is wine a strong flavour?
Depends on the wine! In general it's fairly sweet, as you would
expect, although some people do make dryer versions. I like the very
sweet ones, but that's personal taste. I'm also fond of many of the
spiced ones with things like cinnamon & cloves, etc (and mulled mead,
made like mulled wine but you don't usually need to add any sugar is
very nice), but generally less fond of the fruity ones, although it
does depend somewhat on the fruit in questions.

Ok, I'll check for this. DH is not real fond of wines but there are a
few he will drink. He does like ice wine so I thought if it was
something like that, he would like it.

In the UK Lindisfarne do a fairly dry, winey mead which I'm not
terribly fond of, but I know plenty of people who love it. Lurgashall
do a somehwhat sweeter one which is very nice, and a spiced liquor
version (called Old Jenny, I think?) which is yummy, but everyone's
favourite is Moniack, which is very sweet, and very tastey. But there
    are plenty of others, too.

I highly recommend you give it a try, though - just remmeber if you
don't like the first one you try it's worth experimenting with
    others....

Will do. I hope they sell it at the LCBO stores - one site told how to
make it and that just isn't going to happen any time within the next
    couple of weeks.

np. I may not know tuppence about how to work google's newfangled
group thingymibob, but I am an old, old usenetter (if that's a word?
Somehow usenutter seems more appropriate?!?) and fully appreciate the
    importance of such things! 😉

If by ice wine you mean iced wine, ie cold, from the fridge/poured over
ice, many people swear that mead is fabulous in this way. I even saw
something recently about a mead "snow cone" (which is apparently
crushed up ice in a cone with flavoured syrup, or in this case mead,
poured over it). Personally I'd rather have my mead hot and spiced,
but then I don't tend to like cold drinks very much. Clearly it can be
drunk this way as a summer drink, and is enjoyed by many. You can do
just about anything with it that you can do with any other sweet wine,
and more besides - back to personal preference again....

Ice wine is really sweet & syrupy really a dessert wine. It is
generally served in small quantities. DH really likes it. It's a
little too sweet for my tastes. Here's a link that explains it further.

  4. munchkin, I reread my post and I hope that I didn't offend with it. If so,
    sorry!

I've never heard of Idromele before. So was curious.

Now, Pandora, I use to work at a Renaissance Faire years ago, and got to
taste a number of meads, both homebrew and store bought. Several of the
store boughts were *too* sweet. Chaucer comes to mind (commercial mead). I
wish I could remember the name of the several meads that I loved. Both were
*dry* meads, and one was slightly effervescent. Heavenly!!!!! Was told the
*sparkle* was the way it came.

Most of the home brews were on the dry side as well. One was *way* too
    sweet.

Looking forward to the posting of your Idromele recipe. Who knows? I may
finally try brewing something of my own....

    Thanks, Eric

I would like the effervescent one 🙂

Ah, well, "sweet & syrupy" sounds quite similar to mead. Definitely
    worth a try!
