They moved McEwen back to 186th postition in the finish. Dont know what impact if any it has on him.

The impact is he loses the points he would of got for third or fourth if he didn’t headbutt O'Grady..... Boonon is way out ahead now in the G-Jersey comp....

What about O'gragy's hand? Is it legal to block like that?

I look at it from this point of view, it says alot about the competitiveness in the sport of cycling when two fellow country men try to take each other out to win a stage!!! The pressure to win must be huge!!

Here's the video from the helicopter. It looks farily obvious to me, he's tryin to push O'grady out of the way. Once I might buy it, but when he came back for more, he lost me...

The extended arm is a legitimate tactic. In a bunch sprint it is used often. The officials take notice though when the hands come off the bar after the extension of the elbow/arm.

It was a very impressive stage I didn't even see boonen and then all of a sudden he jumped out of know where and took the win he is really something! great stage😎

The comment from Phil Liggett on SBS summed it up well.

When he was asked what this would do to the relationship between O'Grady and McEwan Liggett replied that it would be the same as it was before the incident. 😄

It looked pretty ordinary the first time I saw it. On the replays it only got worse. Shameful incident.

The only clever thing was how McEwan managed to head-butt while sprinting at 60 k's and not fall off.

I think the Helicopter shot shows that O'Grady unnecessarily swerved toward McEwan about 50 meters from the line (watch the video counter; O'Grady swerves at approximately 18 seconds into the footage). McEwan elbows him off, and then rather petulantly puts his helmet into O'Grady when it's clear neither man is going to win.

McEwan is not justified in using his head like that, but I maintain that O'Grady "started it" (using grade-school playground lingo).

You don't think McEwan leans in (to the right) at 17"??? He was a little bit behind O'Grady at this point so it's questionable is O'Grady even saw McEwan before the contact. Only one man knows the answer to this...

Lonnie: I just watched it again a few times (thanks for the link, btw). It almost looks as if both men are bracing for contact, and McEwan definitely leans first, but it seems to be in response to O'Grady changing the angle of attack on his bike. If you draw a vertical line from top to bottom of the screen, O'Grady's bike works on an angle toward McEwan's line before he has any hope of being clear, and McEwan sees him coming and leans toward him.

Neither man's actions are particularly admirable . . .
