left turn in front of the front car trying to take off! And what if a

I wouldn't bet on any passenger seeing me as they opened the door on
this little red route - the mirror alignment is for the driver. So
you'd probably chose to veer onto the pedestrian bit - which is
illegal, of course.

they need some bollards in the middle to stop doors opening too far

If all the cars parked facing the other way there wouldn't be a problem with the passenger doors!

I'll ask the council to turn it into a one-way street going the other way.

That's why I never know whether to laugh or cry. It's ludicrous and
lethal at the same time. It does illustrate how damaging the proposed
Highway Code changes would be. They would effectively make that road
and others like it no-go zones for me.

the driver and the driver's side passenger, if any. Of course, you
could try and establish eye contact with said driver - and we know that

apparently not AIUI; although I always over rather than undertake as
it's still less common for the driver to stop in the middle of the
traffic and get out than his passenger

Wot Dave said. I rather wish I'd had a camera with me on the way home
yesterday. Then I could have photographed the pavement-with-a-white-
line-down-the-middle just after the bridge at the tail of Tottenham
Lock.

The one with a police car parked on it, squarely astride said white
line...

road, we don't need to stay out to avoid car doors because
- the people opening them are facing us and will see us
- if we do hit a door, we'll slam it shut instead of hitting the edge.

I don't buy it, but it can help with persuading people to allow cycle
exemptions in one-way streets which they would otherwise think too narrow.

We'd be likely to slam it onto the motor-user that'd just opened it,
which could easily be a child and could be injured if its head or limbs
were caught.
They should obviously look before opening vehicle doors into the road,
but how would you get them to look before opening doors onto the
pavement?

(I was once struck by a door thrown open onto the pavement as I walked
past. I had no choice but to push it shut again, for which the moton
started to abuse me at length - apparently pedestrians have no more
right to use footways than cyclists have to use cycleways.)

I think that farcility's dangerous to motons as well as cyclists.

Bicycle helmets are really a bit of a scam.
They make most cyclists slightly less safe but there's money in selling them.
