Mavic 571 Pawls Not Engaging

We don't either and we get asked a lot also. mavic hasn't done a good
job in keeping small parts for older stuff in stock.

Similar problem. I've had these hubs for years (32h 571/2 w Mavic Open
Pros). Wheels have been bulletproof. Built once by Wheelworks in
Davis and rarely needed even truing since. I even got a new freehub a
few years back off the net. Now the pawls are slipping and I'm left
trying to find parts or move on to new hubs.

It's looking like I'll need to move on...any recs? I'm running campy
so I would think any campy hub would be fine. Any signifiant
durability difference in the middle model ranges? shimano any better?
(I have 9sp ultegra on the mavic w my campy gear - no problems)

IF you're running campy, the "best buy" for rear hubs is the Campagnolo
Centaur/Athena/Daytona rear hub. Has all the inner guts of the Record hub
and is only something like 10 or 12 grams heavier, but at alot cheaper
price.

Alternatively, if you can find them, DA 9, model 7700 or Ultegra 9, model
6500 rear hubs are also excellent and since its been discontinued, you may
be able to find it cheap!

Thorough cleaning and lubrication may bring renewed vitality to your
pawl springs.

If you think that your springs have sprung however, my recollection
(suspect on this, it's been a while since I last cracked a 571 or
571/2 open) is that the spring length, gauge and coil diameter is very
similar (same?) as those used in current Mavic freehubs for the
Ksyrium series. Since the original 571 spring is elusive, you might
try the new ones.
