  1. I just want to say first that Will Satterthwaite put on a show this
weekend along with the rest of the spotters and loaders. The crew in
Palm Springs put on one hell of a meet and I never seen a guy work his
ass off all weekend long like Will.

I had hoped for a 5th place finish going into the meet. We didn't
have a very deep class (only 6 lifters) as Scott Zwanstra, Bill
Schmidt and Mitch Edelstein didn't compete and Jerry Trembley dropped
to 198 (didn't know that going in, of course).

So, I opened in the squat at 490 and got that easy. Went up to 524
and went too deep and on my way up, pitched forward and didn't get the
lift. I then took it again for my 3rd and didn't go as deep and got
one red for depth but a good lift.

I opened in bench at 308, then 320 for second and 331 for my third.
All whites. Stated warming up for deads and felt like I was going to
faint with 225. So, I opened at 464 and got it easy. I then went to
485 and started to faint and lost it at the top.

Now here is where it gets interesting. I was in third place the whole
meet and the guy in fourth is a better deadlifter than I am. I was
ahead of him by 35 kilos at subtotal but he opened at 507. On a side
note, I weighed in at 98.7 kilos and he weighed in at 98.6 kilos so he
wins if we tie. The funny thing was, I was on the scale for a long
time before the official recorded my weight. I was at 98.6 until just
before he looked at it when it jumped to 98.7. While he was writing
it down, it dropped back to 98.6.

So after 2 deadlift attempts, I'm in 3rd by 5 kilos and the guy behind
me is taking a 5 kilo jump for his 3rd which will tie me and give him
3rd. So, I go out and take 485 again for my third. This time, I take
a bunch of breaths at the bottom and I wear my belt really loose and
lower. I started feeling faint at the top but lock it out for an easy
3 whites. Now he's got to take another 15 kilos to tie me. I'm in
the back room watching on the monitor as he goes out and takes 240
(not the 250 kilos he needs) and I look at Mitch Edelstein, who was
helping me and did a great job too BTW, and say, "he didn't go
up...I've got third". Turns out he missed the lift, unfortunately.

I'm now staring at the bronze medal I won. What an awesome feeling.
Jason took 2nd just missing first by 2.5 kilos. He just barely snuck
by me for the silver by a little more than 350 pounds:-)

Thanks! My back isn't too bad. It was hurting bad during deadlifts
but I think that was more from the adjustment instead of things being
out of place. I only noticed it during warm ups. It hurt a bit
during squats too but not that bad. Again, I only noticed it in warm
    ups.

Excuses excuses! Your a fat man, trying to be macho. Stop [censored] and
making up stupid, lame excuses. You're a loser, period. That

the London traffic allows me to get to my favourite watering hole!!
    ;o)

John, awesome result. You must have pride oozing thorough you pores.
Charles, what the hell has the day of the week got to do with enjoying a
beer? I have penciled you in Charles as getting quasi Aussie status so
no more of that let's wait until Friday stuff!

Sadly Bob, if I didn't adhere to my strict rules about not drinking
during the week, I would be the size of small house by now.

If I am strict during the week with my diet and workouts, I can really
give it a good go at the weekends and holidays, which you will know I
    always do?

I would be pleased and honoured to be considered a "quasi Aussie", as
I have always had a very high regard for your great country. ;o)

I couldn't really judge depth on most lifts, being too focused on the
spot, but I know there were grumblings about a particular judge being
    an automatic red.

    Good lifting.

Jason took 2nd just missing first by 2.5 kilos.

Kind of a sad story there. Jason's lifting partner/coach screwed up
his math and entered what he thought was the winning attempt for
Jason's third. Jason thought he was pulling for the win, and got the
lift solidly. There's no doubt he would have made the lift with 2.5
more kilos on there. C'est la vie.

I finally got to see Mike Bridges lift. He was taking it easy, going
9/9 and also adding a world record bench on a 4th attempt. He followed
himself on that lift and didn't even bother waiting the full 4 minutes
resting time he was allotted. He moved up a weight class though,
coming in at a full 89.9 kilos.
