Marzocchi Forks, Dust Seal Removal: Tips/Tricks?

    I'm about *that* far from just sending the fushluggener thing in to Marzocchi
    and paying whatever they charge...

    But I'm not quite ready yet...

    I've tried everything I can think of: pushing with the recommended "small
    screwdriver", pushing in one place, pushing all around, pushing hard, pushing
    steadily.... pulling with pliers...

    Haven't managed to score the stanchion yet... but the rubber is starting to
    tear.

    Anybody know some workaround to get these things loose? My assumption is that
    they're sort of welded in there by accumulated crud.

    Destructive is ok - I'm replacing them anyhow.

    surprised by how much persistence was required. I used most of the
    techniques you describe. I wish i could remember which it was that finally
    prevailed. It began to tear as you described, and then i used more force and
    completely destroyed it as it started to pull free. Success!

    Have a beer *before* going back at it to calm your nerves and remember to
    protect the stanchions.

    I built a boat once. Read a couple of books on boat building before hand.
    One of the books layed out the essential tools.

    Two of the tools:
    ----------------------
    - A nice comfy chair
    - A small refrigerator full of your favorite beverage.
    ----------------------

    The spiel was that while building, you'll get to a certain point where it's more
    productive and safer to just sit down in that chair, pop open a cold one, and
    chill out for awhile.

    Pete - have you seen this site:

    They are selling seals, but they also have a nice photo-tutorial on
    remopving fork seals from most makes of fork.

    I can attest to the quality of the seals as well - they were the only
    thing that worked on my weepy SID.
