For my recent LEJOG I took relevant pages torn from AA road atlas -
they are always available cheap e.g £2 or so in garages, and cover
roads really well in enough detail to navigate through most places inc
busy towns. Don't weigh much and you chuck the pages away as you go.
BUT I've just spotted that the Philips equivalent also has campsites
marked up. Could have been useful, twice had to rough camp and now
find that I was within half mile or so of campsite. Bugger.
It's Philips for me from now on!
