  1. Hello all over the world. Its been a while since I was on the forum. The thing is its been about 6 months since I rode and I'm feelling guilty when I see other riders out there. I came back here to hopefully become re-inspired to ride. Have you guys gone through this before? what to do! what to do! I know I'm whining but hopefully I'll read something that gets me back on the bike - thanks Neville in Austin

  3. Try this: get on the bike and ride.

It's the only thing that works.

Agree with Alienator. The other thing that works for me is watching your favourite race or stage.

Ride with Lance and Run with Kristen. They both live near you.

I don't know what to tell you Neville. It helps if you have friends that like to ride as well. This forum needs a "Sunday - Saturday Dailies" forum so you can post your rides or exercise for each day in thread fashion, that really helps the motivation.

I myself have been putting in the training miles with my running shoes lately more so that cycling. Things will change.

Find some friends or a group to ride with.

    Good luck.

  6. Sometimes the easiest things to take for granted are the things that are right in front of us. I wish I could ride, but I live in Canada, and we got a foot of snow today. Riding is out of the question for sime time yet. The really nice thing about living here, though, is that there are a lot of places that suck more!

Just shake it and get on that bike!

  7. If you are not motivated, do not ride. It is that simple. You are not paid to do this, and it should be enjoyable!

But if you need some 'help', organise yourself with riding buddies who count on you to participate in their rides. That usually does the trick to get people off the sofa... 😉

  8. I agree with the others that you have to get on the bike and ride... tell yourself that you don't have to kill yourself... take it for an easy spin. I find that even though my motivation is lagging, before I know it, I get lost in the ride...

you might also try bringing some music along to listen to...

  9. What motivated me to begin riding again was my father's quadruple bypass surgery and my mother's severe back problems. Both would be in much better shape today had they been exercising regularly.

For further motivation, try watching a video of open heart surgery, studying research on the effects of bad exercise habits, and realizing the benefits that a good riding program will grant you.

In short, start riding again or die young.

    Howz that for motivation?

If you want to kick start a long ride, have a buddy drop you and your bike a hundred kilometers away from your home--preferrably on a nice day. You will be forced to ride again and will likely realize how much you missed it as you pedal home.

  10. Join a club and attend those scheduled club rides...

  11. I ride my bike daily because:

    1. I still can.
    2. I have the time before work.
    3. Time travel- it takes me back to my childhood.
    4. Keeps me from getting obese.
    5. Helps me boost my immune system, get sick rarely.
    6. Sleep better.
    7. Feel and look better.
    8. Stress management- releaser and outlet for bottled up frustrations.
    9. Best anti-anxiety and anti-depressant.
    10. Meet new people.
    11. Save on gasoline spending.
    12. Help save the environment.
    13. Help motivate others as they watch me riding with a big smile on my face loaded with natural endorphins!
    14. Gives me some serious "me time" and able to enjoy some good Jethro Tull in my i-pod- uninterrupted, of course!😄

  12. If you really want to be on the bike, get on the bike! there's alot of people confined to wheelchairs that would be thrilled to get up at three in the morning and ride a crappy old bike in sleet on a gravel road while wearing a clown suit if only they could.

(Kind of makes our excuses for not riding seem kind of lame)

  13. Just get on the bike and mess around. Don't "ride" or "train". Do fun! Ride in the park, bunny hop or whatever. Biking was fun for you once. Go back to there and the rest will follow.🙂

    +1

Take the cyclometer off. Don't wear a heart rate monitor. Just cruise around at whatever pace feels good. When you get in better shape and start getting frisky then start more disciplined training.

Lack of inspiration to ride your bike or doing anything else could be a symptom of being bored with your life routine. Often doing something you are familiar with like riding your bike becomes stale. Try doing something totally different, could be anything from riding a MTB or Kayaking, cooking, rock climbing, snorkelling, ice swimming, sky diving, ride a new track, ride with different people whatever you like to give you that new sense of excitiment or adventure to keep you interested in life. I think only then you can appreciate all the other things you have and do like riding your bike. Maybe set some achievable goals, as they say, having no goals or destination any path will take you there.
Now having said that I better go do the same!! 😄

I have a friend who will drop what ever ( well almost anything) he is doing and ride if I ask him. Now that's what I call A riding buddy. I have another very good friend with a new 2 grand C'dale that I can't bribe to get out. What's up with that?

He should have spent four or five grand, then he would feel more obligated to ride. 😄

  18. I lose my mojo from time to time, too...

The thing I keep telling myself is, I've NEVER gone out on a ride and regretted it...

But EVERY time I've had a chance to ride and passed for whatever reason, I've regretted it...

  19. Yeah you got to have the right conditions. I'm not sure I've ever felt guilty about not riding but I could see how it might happen. Love it, do this when you can enjoy it. Time away is ok you will appreciate it even more. Keeping up on favorite things like this is always good for you.

  20. Hope you got out of your funk. Now it's much later so did you hit another slump again or keep up with it? It happens every now and then. It's not a big deal.
