1. Hello,

I purchased a Blackburn mag trainer. Worked fine out the box. One week later I start my work out and its making this awful clanking sound. Do the usual trouble shooting stuff. The noise is coming from the trainer and not my bike. The noise goes away so I cycle for an hour on the trainer. At the end I put my hand on the mag unit and its stone cold. However, the little roller is piping hot and my tire is warm. I repeat the next day and same outcome.

I've used mag rollers before so I know that the mag unit is supposed to get hot. I haven't used a trainer before. So my question is should the little roller get hot? Piping hot?

Thanks.

2. Hello,

I'll answer my own question. I replaced the trainer with same. And ...

Mag unit should get hot. Within 5 minutes use its warm. After an hour its hot.
The roller should get hot but not piping hot.
After an hour use the tire should be v slightly warm (but not as warm as it was).

And one week later the replacement trainer broke. The same problem again.

Regards,

3. Well, that doesn't sound like a trainer anyone should be buying. I hope you can get your money back!

What model of Blackburn trainer is it?

4. I am a fan of the mag trainer, but some are better than others. Check out the site below, it recommends different Mag trainers that are the best on the market.

Thanks,
Jason K.

5. I have used a Cateye magtrainer for years with no issue. I am however amazed at this situation. You can on a trainer for an hour? Amazing!

6. It's a Blackburn Trakstand. $159.99 so I guess I got what I paid for.

The LBS was v good about refunding.

7. Do yourself a favor, add about $150 extra and get yourself the Kurt Kinetic. Fluid.

It's good your bike shop gave you a refund and it was good of you to post about your experience with that particular trainer...that's a good future reference for folks looking to purchase a trainer!

Like Gman said, check out those fluid trainers....
