  1. I've been lurking in this newsgroup for a while and have learned a lot.
    I'm 170cm (5'7"😉 and 70.3kg (155 lb).

I've been trying to work out about 3 times a week. I have a cheap bench
and free weights and usually I do either bench press or curls or pullups
or squats but usually I don't have enough energy to do a whole body
workout, and end up doing at most 2 of these excercises. Is that normal?

I also try running for 30 minutes at least once a week.

I'm really beginning (about 1 year), but I've already obtained some
results that I'm happy with. First I lost a lot of weight (about 20 lb),
and then I've added leaner mass (about 10 lb). You can find a pic of
    myself on
    http://uhlman.i8.com/index.html

My main goal is to get slightly bigger and get my body fat lower to
obtain more definition. I'd like to get better defined abs and narrow my
midsection. I've always had those love handles, so I'm afraid genetics
    are not in my side.

    Any advice?

Look at your diet would be number one. And I'd also increase the cardio
    beyond once a week.

How long do your workouts last? I mean, how many sets are you doing if
you can only manage two exercises in a workout?

I suspect you do mostly biceps curls and call it quits. Either that
or your chest was surgically removed. However, the pic is not that
great so maybe there is something there.

I think if you lose any weight your ribs will start to show and you'll
look sickly. You've probably already been too overzealous about the
weight loss. Put back on 10 lbs, start doing the big compounds
(bench, squat, dead). I know you want to see your abs but you're
pretty squishy and will probably need to lose 10-15 lbs more to do it.
    You'll look awful.

Once you stop calorie restricting you may find it easier to get
    through a workout.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Well, I'm not so sure. He may just be starting to get ahead in life. Maybe
his head is up his ass (pretty common 'round these parts). Maybe he's a
liberal Democrat and his head atrophied from disuse.

Otherwise, I'd recommend he eat less and exercise more.

    Squat first.

Wouldn't more cardio reduce the increase in weight? How much cardio do
    you think is adequate?

Usually I try to do 3 sets, with the max weight that will allow me to do
    6-10 reps.
