Lupine-headlight users anywhere?

I don't have a great deal to compare it to, but I went ahead and bought an Edison from www.gretnabikes.com and paid--well, you know--roughly the same amount as the GNP of your garden variety, sub-Saharan country in Africa.

But you see, I've got really bad eyes, and I commute to work. Coming home is about 45 minutes, and always in the dark, partly along the highway that can be littered with broken glass--only the tiny shards, of course.

My light is amazing. I've ridden with a friend who has an HID Nite Rider Blow Torch. It's quite good, but the beam pattern is not as even, nor is the color quite as blue-white (functionally different? I don't know, but I like the color mine throws off).

I agree with the comments that other users on other sites have made. You riding buddies will be sad when you veer off to head home, leaving them virtually in the dark with their single and twin-beam incandescent or halogen bulbs. Oncoming cars certainly know you're coming.

I can see *everything.*

I've ridden about 4hrs on high setting with nary a hint of battery fatigue (rated 5h/8h on high/low), and the digital charging system seems flawless. Inclusion of a 12v charger is a nice touch. Everything about it stinks of thoughtful engineering and impeccable quality.

The Stuby, with its phalanx of LEDs, looked intriguing, but--knowing I'm not going to need 24hrs of light....

Buy it, but promise yourself that the minute you do, you'll forget what you paid. It's probably 20% better than lights that are 40% less expensive. You'll get over that ;-)

The latest edition of the UK magazine 'Cycling Weekly' has a round up of lights and the Lupine Edison 5 comes out top (if money is no object). Best overall was the Lupine Passublo XC which I am going to buy this week.

Went out riding with my wife last night. She has a dual-beam incandescent from Performance Bike. It was the first time she had ridden next to me with the Lupine Edison on, melting paint as I rode.

She won't ride with me at night again until I buy her a new light. Ordered a Passubio XC this morning for $300.00.

I have been using the Lupine Pussubio XC for two months now and while the system is superb I do have one grumble. Having had the bulb already blow on me I thought, 'No problem, I can get a spare anywhere'. Nope. The bulbs are integrated into the reflector so I'm crossing my fingers that the shop I bought them from carry Lupine spares. Otherwise it's going to be a long wait and riding at the weekends only!
