Tore down and cleaned the entire drive train after yesterday's ride. BIG
difference today in shift performance, probably added some life to the
components as well. Now it shifts like butta'. I've heard it said that a
SS will eliminate that problem (there, no need to mention further, eh?)
Recently I thought I'd try the advice of some of the r.b.t. chain lube
debate club and try chain saw bar oil. I'd have to call that a failure, at
least for where I ride. It's cheap -- $2.50 for a quart, but it can gunk up
a drive train in no time. I guess it might work for roadies who never get
near dirt, but I'm sticking to Pro Link for now.
Since I had the cranks off and the tools out, I decided to overhaul the
pedals as well. Anyone know of any service instructions for Time ATAC?
Couldn't find any on the web. I opened 'em up, pulled out the spindles,
tried to clean the gunk off, relubed and re-installed. Thankfully it
eliminated the annoying creak I had on the left side. I'd been trying to
diagnose that little F***er for weeks! Never dawned on me to check the
pedals until I had them off yesterday. The sealed bearing appeared to be
held in place on the spindle by some sort of retaining clip. Anyone know
how to get that off, or will I just succeed in screwing up the unit?
Hubs this weekend. Yeah.
