  1. When it comes to riding in the cold, I'm kinda wimpy. At what temp do you decide not to ride (outside)? Me, anything below 40 degrees fahrenheit.

  2. About 15 F. Use to do one hour commute as low as about 15. Can only go about an hour at this temp.25 to 40 F is not bad can go 1-1/2 to 2 hours.

  3. Yeah, I'm a wuss. 45 F is about the lowest for me and even then I prefer the trainer. My knees just never seem to warm up and I have asthma so cooler dry weather is not for me. It really need to be about 70 or higher for me to thrive.

  4. I hate the cold, once its below 45 F i set up my indoor trainer.

  5. Zero or less. The snow or is that will show me down. I am thinking of getting a mountain bike then that will not stop me either.

  6. Did a 3hr ride today, 11-17 degrees and about 10-15mph winds. Just be sure to eat well before and during the ride. Keep your water bottles under your coat! Get those stick on toe warmers. Don't get too sweaty, or if you do, don't slow down!

  7. I rarely rode in freezing temps when I lived in Asheville, North Carolina. But I moved to Sweden in 2003 and everyone bikes here everyday, everywhere. Thus, I ride my mountain bike not only on the trails, but also to the supermarket, work and school when the temp dips to below zero Farenheit. Snow makes it really fun!

  8. Before this winter the coldest I rode in was about 45 F, but I already have a couple of ride at 32 F... As long as there is no wind I will ride down to 32 F, but even with booties on I can only go for about 1.5hrs before my toes get too cold...

  9. About 16F is my lowest so far I'm sure I can do single digits if I had to with masking tape over the vents on my helmet and ear and face coverage. It is snow deeper than 2 inches that can stop me from going out even with studded snow tires which are great on ice its like riding on 2 inches of sand.

  10. I think I want to make a correction bike riding in single digits is nuts I forgot how freaking cold 4F is I got a reminder this morning. Oh and did I mention my commute is less than 2 miles.🙂

  11. High teens.

  12. This last Sunday it was 5 deg f above. I was the only one to show for my group ride. The Sunday before that it was 56 and raining I was the only one to show up then too. I wish someone would join me I only did 20 miles instead of the normal 50.

  13. 17 degrees is my coldest this year so far. And that was not much fun until my hands warmed up. I couldn't feel my fingers until I took my gloves off and then they felt warm when I put my gloves back on. Funny.

Yesterday I rode at 20 for an hour and it was not bad except for the wind trying to blow me off the road.

On Tuesdays we have a night ride but most folks won't ride below 40. High today is 41 so I don't expect many if any riders tonight.

A couple of weeks ago I was out in 36 degrees -- no wind, which is a critical factor -- and wasn't uncomfortable. Nonetheless, I decided I wouldn't go out in anything much colder. Now, that was in December. Give me another month on the trainer with Coach Troy and I may be ready to head out into colder weather.

  15. Anything above freezing, no wind, and dry is fair game for the road rides. Although I have ridden the road in below freezing temps, icy, snowy conditions, I prefer to stay in the woods below these temps. The coldest its been while I've ridden is about 15 degrees. The trails get hard and fast when they are frozen. I like to hit the trails early in the winter mornings before temps get too warm and turn them to mud. Right now, in Baltimore MD its in the teens and wind chills are single digits close to zero.

  16. i'm new to cold this year, so 35 degress F for 1hr30 minutes is enough for me.

that's probably as low as i'll go.

  17. I took out the trash last night and got all wheezy. Came in and had to hit the inhaler a couple of times. I just can't tolerate being out in the cold. Florida here I come!

  18. -23 celsius (about -4 fahrenheit) in Hokkaido, Japan  no amount of clothing will keep you warm; gives new meaning to the term "numb nuts" 😄

  19. Just moved from southern cal to eastern north carolina and it is cold here. I got cold weather bib tights and jacket and seem to be ok to about 8f with only my toes going numb after two hours. Most of my riding "group" wear sweats and running shoes on their recumbants... I look so euro in my red catelli jacket and feel so fast on my Kestrel. They all look @ me like I'm crazy! I really do try to fit in but I am from California... oh well. Peace.

  20. About 35F is my cutoff. Anything colder and it just doesn't seem worth it. Yes, the trainer sucks, but so does bitter cold. On the other hand, if I had the $$ and bought the proper cold-weather gear, I might be OK with it. Anyway, have fun no matter what temp you ride in.
