There are at least two models of front opening gaitors from LA. There
is a lighter weight model selling around £20 and the LA Mountain
Gaitor at £30. I have also just bought a pair of the more expensive
ones to replace a pair of Mountain Range that were eaten ( well badly
chewed ) by mice in my garage where they were drying from a previous
trip.

I have worn them also 3 times ith absolutely no sign of wear at all.
However I have today lost the plastic buckle that secures the loose
end of the underfoot strap so will also be writing to La to try to get
a replacement buckle. Perhaps we can share noptes on customer service
later

problem with goretex based gaitors (crampon spikes aside) I am wondering
if I should pursue a replace or money back approach.

Hmm, i`ve had a pair of front-opening Lowe gaiters (not sure what
model) for a number of years and they are still in great condition
(would be even better if I looked after them). Sounds a bit
suspicious - dodgy batch of fabric?

I have used those gaiters on a number of trips and am very happy with
them... used them mostly for hunting, when you've got to get through
thick, wet undergrowth and muddy terrain. At first I used to leave
them in the boot of my car after taking them off and forget about them
until next use. The fabric started getting a bit crumply. I waxed them
and now take more care of them (wash them with warm water after each
use and let them dry properly) and they look like they'll hold for
many more years to come.
Also, those Lowe gaitors are very resistant to thorns etc.
I'd buy them again.

The end game went as follows

Lowe asked for the gaiters back to inspect them. Inspections concluded the
damage was accidental and not covered by guarantee but in light of the
short usage (3 days) they offered a good will replacement with a pair of
the higher spec mountain gaiter which they considered more appropriate for
my usage FOC.

Said gaiters arrived yesterday and in this case at least I cant fault the
speed of response on the customer service side hopefully I will now get to
test my new toy this weekend

Generally the argument (there shouldn't be one) is between you and the
shop NOT the manufacturer.

No, they're in the right.

Sorry Peewiglet, - if the item does not perform in the task for which it
is intended, then you have rights under the Sale of Goods Act (1893 and
subsequent revisions) to have a refund or replacement. The manufacturer
does not come into the equation. The trader must deal with the problem.

It definitely make me more likely to consider buying from them in future

I have the Lowe Alpine Gaiters -Triple point ceramic or something. They
are by far the best I've used - so easy to put on and the front zip is a
great idea.

That was one of the reasons I purchased in the first place, that and the
