Low Wind Noise Helmet

It's not a troll....I actually dislike the wind noise and I'm looking
for helmet opinions...I'm not looking to ride with music....

I meant what *I* wrote can often start flame wars (earbuds are just /so/
controversial! LOL ).

If you really commute at 20-24 mph, you should worry more about B.O. than
wind noise.

My Giro Switchblade keeps wind noise down quite nicely. I couldn't
tell you if it would do the same with the face shield removed, as I
never felt the need to remove the part that saves my face if I end up
needing the helmet to begin with. If it looks like the parts will
still come off, as the helmet is some years old, I'll try to see if
the wind noise changes. I'd be curious to know anyway, though I think
I'll continue to protect my face for the most part when doing any
riding that inspires me to grab the helmet to begin with. The funny
thing is, I'm not even that good looking. If you are, you may
consider protecting your face as well. I'll post back with results
tomorrow.

Why not another Alchera? It looks like it's still available at some of the
online places.

The Bell Metro is sometimes touted as being "normal-looking," with its
rounded profile and the absence of garish fins at the back. Is it possible
the fins cut down on wind noise?

Perhaps you should join me for a ride before making any assumptions
about the protection required. The level needed varies ride to ride
and I find that if I'm going to need a helmet at all, it's probably
not going to be a perfectly neat fall where I land on the top of my
head as I tip over on the bike. It's far more likely to be a somewhat
high-speed faceplant. For me and my riding style, full face makes
sense. I didn't say that the OP has to wear a full face, just that it
works for me.

You'll notice that I offered to make a run without the face shield in
an attempt to help the OP in their search for a quiet bicycle helmet,
regardless of their choice of full or partial coverage. Oddly enough,
I didn't find any attempts to help the OP in your response. I didn't
see much bicycle content at all in your post, actually. I don't see
much bicycle content in many of your posts at all, to be frank. When
was the last time you posted some bicycle content, anyway? Do you
ride a bicycle?

My question was about the OP needing a /full-face helmet/ for a COMMUTE.
Why on earth would you taking a ride have any bear---- oh, screw it.

I don't use football helmets and pads for even the most rugged mountain bike
rides; can't imagine needing them for a road ride. (And yes, I've put over
20,000 miles on my two road bikes in the last few years, which HAS cut down
on my MTB miles admittedly.)

IME, the swoopy ones (that make it look like there's a giant
multicolored mutant oyster eating the top of your head) generally are
less wind-noisy than the regular-helmet-shaped ones like the Metro,
but they also have shells that are little more than stiff sandwich
wrap. Sometimes, the noise can be alleviated by fiddling with the
strap positions somewhat, or by putting a slightly thicker foam pad in
the center of the crown of the helmet, which spaces it up off the top
of your head just a bit.

A pair of low-density foam earplugs, of the minimal-noise-reducing
variety often employed in industrial environments that are just on the
verge of too loud to be healthy over the long term, might reduce the
wind noise without limiting your ability to hear such things as an
approaching car.

Of course, it probably won't take long for someone to point out that
no helmet = no helmet noise, but I'm assuming that you find this to be
advice of no personal value for reasons that you consider good and
sufficient.

Yes, windnoise is the main reason why I wear that kind of 'helmet' when
I ride alone.
