Can't come up with a citation, but I've read cautions in a couple of places
    about Ti rails' durability.

I had a Ti rail saddle on my hardtail for 9 years. It is now on my FS
bike. No problems. I did manage to break a seatpost the saddle was
attached to, but the saddle seems fine.

  2. I was considering the following"
Cro-molly frame; Ti forks, stem, bar & bar ends, seat post and saddle with Ti rails.
Has anyone built something like this already?
What say you re pros/cons of this and similar setup?

Now that's the biggest weight-saver right there! 😉

None of the things you mentioned are really going to save you that much
weight. You'll want to look at getting lighter wheels, frame, and fork in
    order to cut the pounds.

    Someone surely has.

I'd say the pros would be a light responsive ride and the good feeling
of knowing you've got some bling.

The cons would be expense compared to a less-fancy bike, and that often
the weight savings comes at the cost of durability.

PS - be sure to get some purple anodized parts too!

I have ti railed Fizik Nisene saddles on both my rigid SS and Freak
bike ad have experienced no problems in almost six years with those
saddles. Then again, I broke a Velo saddle ti rail once a few years
back that was on a hardtail. It probably depends on the quality of the
saddle as much as how thrasher of a rider one may be.

I've bent chromo rails on a WTB saddle so I switched to Ti (also WTB -
they seem to suit my bony ass) and it's been fine. I'm not a
particularly large or heavy person (~150#) either so I must have really
landed on my butt hard to do this. Lucky for me the saddle was the part
    that broke!

I got my cheeks skewered by some vandium rails a few years back. I
crashed and didn't realize the seat had popped off the rails until I
    jumped back on. Ouchie!

Alu frame, cro-mo forks and one gear. I love it, it's light, responsive
and super fast, but anything over 3 hours and your body takes a bit of a
    pounding.

  13. Frame will rust and the military will be taking your Ti
parts to melt down for spare jet fighter plane parts.

  14. Back in 97 the chromo rails broke and there was the
seatpost left. Low and behold I had a seat in my backpark, why I don't
know but it saved the night.

A friend from a bike shop named George has a SS set up, based on an old Rock
Lobster frame, with ti fork and riser. *Pretty light bike.*
