  1. In looking for a possible girl friend, I often felt it was important that
she have the right religion and ethnic background. Now, my top priority is
    that she lives low carb.

Has anyone on here been divorced after low carb vs. low fat fights?

Gosh, for some people diet *is* a religion!

I don't find the differences in what my husband and I and my children eat to
be that big of a deal. As long as it poses no unnecessary major expense
that we can't work around, it's never been an issue. I can make my family
a pot of spaghetti and some garlic bread, no problem, and the fact that I
don't eat it has no bearing on our overall relationship... It's no sweat to
open a tin of tuna and mix it with some salad <shrug>. So my husband can
have and enjoy bread and cookies, and I cannot... big deal. It's no major
inconvenience for him to have some bread and for me to not have some.

I find that having the "right religion" etc, and all of the foundational
beliefs are very important, on the other hand, to share, and in unity raise
a family, should one decide to have children. Being partners in life where
the big things are concerned is IMHO, a very important integral part of a
permanent, harmonious relationship, and deepens the romance and attraction.

JMHO of course, YMMV, and all the other standard acronyms I'm sure to get
    spanked for forgetting ;-)

As an aside, did you have the "head over heels" feeling quickly after
meeting or did it develop over time (or would you consider your love to be
    different than that)?

Well, we met in an unconventional way, on the internet. Neither of us were
"looking", so I suppose our friendship developed over time. We realized we
wanted it to be more after over a year of communicating. Now here we are
    10 years later.

We didn't meet on any of those "I'm desperate" sites. We didn't advertise,
or anything, we met on IRC.

i don't think you need to worry about it too much. with an attitude
like the one you display here, i doubt that an awful lot of women are
going to be beating a path to your door.

although there are some who like control freaks. maybe you'll hook up
with one of them and live happily ever after.

  14. Hmmm. I never thought of myself as a "control freak."

I do like to assert my eclectic vision.

Ironically, my view is that invariably willpower fails in the face of
hunger. My key tenet is: the body's calorie consumption thermostat has to
be manipulated. Low Carb High Fat seems to be the way to do that. A
control freak would demand one to starve one's self. (like JC?)

You should see me play poker.

low carb really is a religion to some people. crazy.

  16. Not so crazy. For people who have failed at other plans and find low carb
works it's like being born again.

I can't imagine it could be that bad. My husband is not LC. He
supports my LCing. I think it's important to find someone who supports
and doesn't SABOTAGE your dieting. I had friends who tried to sabotage
whatever diet I was on. That doesn't work.

But LC with non-LC?? Sure... when my husband or I cook, we make some
meat, some veggies... and throw a baked potato or cup of pasta in for
    him. No big deal.

  18. I find this idea that the person must eat the same way you do as a bit
humorous. Having the same philosophy of life is a lot more important,
meaning, religion and basic values in life. Whether or not she has a
weight problem/diabetic problem and needs to/prefers to eat LC seems to be
one of the least important things in the big picture of life.

What happens if you become like Jenny, as she posted a while ago, whereas
she has found out lately that counting calories has begun to work better
for her than strict low carbing? What happens if your
girlfriend-who-was-low-carb finds the same thing? What happens if she's
never had a weight problem and can eat everything in sight and never gain
a pound? Somehow I think food is too important in your life if it matters
    that much.

I agree with Crafting Mom, completely, here. I can make a big pot of
spaghetti and meat sauce, with garlic bread and corn and sit down to a
plate of taco salad, and not have a problem with it at all. I don't
consider it one of those areas in life which are necessary.

I think it boils down to "how important is food" to you?
I think if it plays the minor in role that it probably should, it wouldn't
    be 'that' important to you.

A person who truly is expressing love won't sabatoge your efforts to lose
    weight.

If you find hours of pleasure talking about low carb eating and foods your
cup of tea, maybe it is important to build a relationship on, but I find
    it rather shallow.

I agree, that is the most important thing.

There are as many different kinds of relationships as there are people, so
this is hard to answer generally, but the main thing is that there are
enough shared values and shared enjoyments upon which to build a common
    life.

If LC is important to you, than being with someone who ridicules and/or
sabotages it is obviously not going to be a good partner. Personally I
can't imagine ruling out a partner merely because s/he didn't follow an LC
plan, as long as s/he was supportive and understanding about it. But that's
my priority; Cubit's may be different, and that doesn't make it right or
    wrong.
