  1. Hi folks - we're having our formal wedding on Saturday! And departing
Monday for our honeymoon in Cape Cod.

Being in California, and having NEVER been to the East Coast let alone
where we're going, I have no idea what to expect. What can anyone
recommend regarding staying on plan while on our trip? any
    recommendations, good eateries in particular?

    Thank you.

  2. Is it really that difficult to figure out how not to eat carbs?

No wonder Reader's Digest is so popular.

    --
Do you ever wonder what life would be like if you'd had enough oxygen at
    birth?

Sadly, you have to eat cranberries in Cape Cod. It's the law; witten and
    enforced by the Kennedy's.
    :-)

I don't think it's so much a regional thing as it is to know what the
potential dangers are when going to restaurants (or on vacations) in
general. For me, it's the desire to have a big fruity drink and munch
on chips and salsa or fresh baked bread while waiting on the food. So
I ask for water right away if it's not provided and immediately put in
a order for a tasty non fruity drink and a low carb appetizer. Veg
trays/antipasto will work (just watch the carrots or ask that they be
omitted if you're strict low carb, on induction, etc.), or perhaps a
shrimp cocktail. I also drink a full glass of water before heading
out to any restaurant and more when I get there. In addition, it
might not hurt to take plenty of nuts and jerky with you on the trip
to have something to conveniently snack on.

Cape Cod -- lots of seafood is an obvious choice. Don't know what the
good restaurants are in the area, but I bet there are plenty. Maybe
try asking on one of the regional groups? If there isn't one, you
might ask on the rec.food.restaurants group.

Any decent restaurant should have no trouble preparing and bringing a
meal to your table that conforms to your diet upon request. Just have
them omit any sides that are high carb and tell them you'll pass on
the obligatory bread or chip basket. Ask that the waitstaff not even
bring these things to your table; you might be tempted to pick at
    them.

Well, gee...you're visiting an ocean resort area. Big surprise...there
will be a lot of seafood options available to you. More than you could
ever hope for. You don't mention where, on Cape Cod, you're staying
(it's a pretty big place, end to end) but you'll have no problem
finding a plethora of fresh and delicious seafood wherever you are.
Steamed lobster, clams (steamers or on the half-shell), fresh oysters,
etc. are plentiful and some of the best you'll find anywhere. Sure,
there are places that fry everything (but it's all fresh, not frozen),
so be selective about where you eat. Chowder is all New England style
(cream, potatoes, clams, etc.). You won't find red Manhattan-style.
There are also many Portuguese restaurants. Coastal MA including Cape
Cod was a popular place to settle for Portuguese immigrants - again,
    expect lots of fresh seafood.

  6. Congratulations and/or good luck! (Since I can't tell if you are bride or
groom I'll offer both. I remember an old superstition that it's bad luck to
    congratulate the bride.)

Have fun! Find a good local lobster place. My parents vacationed there a
few years ago and had lobster many times. Seems it was definitely cheaper
than here in the Midwest. Go figure! ;-D

  7. The Cape is a big place...depends on where you're staying...and also how
tolerant you are of lines...both on the highway, and
    waiting to get into restaurants.

The closer you are to Hyannis, the greater the lines are going to be. There
are lots of restaurants in Chatam, Orleans, etc.....chatam
has several inns that have good restaurants....plus its a great town to just
    walk the streets on......I love
Tangs (if its still there)....chinese place up in Eastham, great Kung Pau
Chicken. If you're up in P-town (thats ProvinceTown for you
non New Englanders) there are also plenty of small restaurants.

Just keep driving, see someplace you like, and try it.

Oh...here's a tip: Pick up one of those Cape Cod books (they're freakin
everywhere, the kind with things to do and coupons to clip)...
see all the places that offer coupons? Yeah, avoid them.

Oh...and if you're there on a sunday morning, find The Egg And I...on RT
28...good breakfast buffet. Pile up a plate of bacon and sausage like
some kind of bloodthirsty wildman.......since its your honeymoon, I imagine
    you'll need the calories 😉

I have not been to Cape Cod since I was 10 years old, but there is bound to
be plenty of good seafood. Do you like lobster? :-)
