  1. Just wanted to welcome you and wish you the best of luck on your Low Carb
    venture.
Sorry, I don't have any advice on the blood sugar stuff. I basically know
nothing about it. Someone here will know though.
    hugs,

You're going to want to test religiously to make sure you don't shoot
too much insulin, because with low-carb your BG isn't going to spike
    high.

If you're on any meds, you need to keep an extra close eye, because
beta-stimulators may take you hypo if you suddenly start low-carbing,
    particularly with additional insulin.

Low-carbing should keep you on an even keel, BG-wise. It's the meds,
insulin, etc. you're going to need to adjust to keep those extras from
    taking you hypo.

    HTH.

Be extremely careful with your insulin. You can bring your blood sugars
down too far if you give yourself too much. Does your doctor know you're
doing LC? He definitely should. He may have to adjust your dosages.

  6. You need to be neurotic in your testing. Using carbs to correct a low
does not defeat the purpose... you just need to not overcorrect it. You
should also be shooting for the amount of carbs you're eating, not the
    amount you used to eat.

Buy some glucose tabs and keep them with you at all times. They don't
taste bad, but they don't taste like a treat.

You can read a lot of Dr. Bernstein's book online for free at:
    www.diabetes-normalsugars.com/

You should also head over to misc.health.diabetes... many there use
    insulin and low carb.

  7. Thanks for the advice guys

I have told the hospital and my dietician that I am trying low carb but all
they say is no don't do it. I can't seem to get any straight advice out of
them about the insulin requirements so it's all experimenting. I have got
the glucose tablets but I presume this will have the same effect carb wise?
I am also taking metformin. I have cut the insulin by half and still kept
the metformin as this seems to be a better way for wiehgt loss according to
    what I have read.

Metformin is important for cardiac protection from insulin resistance.
I consider it kind of a beneficial side-effect that it helps my BG
    numbers, too.
