I've always exercised to some extent during times when I've lost weight.
Mostly rather moderately. Right now I'm doing almost exactly what you do - I
walk for a half-hour or so on the trails in my local park. Relaxing and it
seems to help.
I also think it's good to do some resistance exercise. Nothing major, just
something to work the major mucle groups a couple times a week. I have some
equipment, so I'll use my TotalGym or dumbbells. Or sometimes a video. I try
to do some yoga/stretching regularly, too. It all works together to help, I
think.
Oddly, I've noticed that during periods where I've exercised more heavily
(all day hiking in the mountains, long-distance cycling in the hills) I
haven't lost weight. Not sure why, but there it is.
