I recently took my bicycle into a shop for a tune up. They cleaned everything and readjusted the equipment back to "optimal" settings.
When I got it back, I noticed a new noise and tracked it down to the rear casette -- all of the sprocket rings are just slightly rotationally loose. Is this a normal adjustment???

The bike shop either left a shim ring (NOT a spacer) off or they forgot to properly tighten the lock ring.
Some Shimano freehub cassette/freehub bodies require a spacer, some don't.

Maybe he means the shim = ~0.5mm spacer (looks like crenellated ring) that often is used to space the 2nd or 3rd cog away from the bolt or rivet heads on a riveted cog assembly. As opposed to the full ~3mm spacer between cogs. It isn't a very clear way of making the distinction. Anyway, those goofy crenellated rings do sometimes go astray. The OP should go back to the shop and they should figure it out for him.
