  1. Hello, ok here is what I want to do. I have flabby abs, meaning I want to
get rid of the fat at my abdominal area however, I still want to get muscle
and get bigger. Ok, so I dont know if this is really possible but can I get
a few ideas to help me out? I know to gain muscle you have to eat a lot,
now if I eat smartly and do cardio 3 - 4 times per week can I acheive what
    I want?

I work out everyday cycling cardio and weightlifting meaning one day cardio
    one day weightlifting.

    THankyou.

  2. Do you have flabby abs, meaning excessive skin or are you fat around
the abs? Also, incorporating heavy cardio and weight training can
hinder your muscle growth because the body can burn muscle as energy.

Regardless, low body fat is the key to have noticeable abs. Get rid of
the gut first; weight training is the key to burning fat.

  3. In a word...no. You cannot gain muscle and lose fat. To make those abs
bigger you need to be in a state of anabolism. I always say gain muscle
then lose the weight, then you will lose the weight more easily.

Stay the heck away from carbs. But not too far away.

Typical wrong answer .. people can (as a newbie) gain muscle and lose
fat at the same time and it depends alot on what bodytype you have. It
may level off of course and then you have to make choices.

But the OP doesnt want *bigger* abs, he wants to lose the spare tire.
You could have great abs (or think you might) and never see them
because of the fat layer over them.

That kind of depends on the person. Yes muscle burns more calories blah
blah but overall its I would say to lean out first to actually SEE what
muscle is under that fat layer and then to re-evaluate your diet.
I think its easier to add 500-1000 calories needed to gain muscle, than
to constantly create a caloric deficit to lose the bodyfat.

Its not carbs, its the CHOICE of carbs & their calories to understand
before you omit or limit a food group.

Odd, I've been doing just that for two months. Been losing 1/2 to
one pound per week and took a notch in on the belt while adding 5-10
lbs. in weight to 3 or more machines a week (out of 16), on average.
True, much of this may be "newbie gains," but it *is* working.

ITYM simple carbs such as refined sugar, white bread, processed
(white) rice, most pasta and the like. (Shame about the pasta.)
Whole grain carbs are a necessary component of a nutritious and
healthy diet, no? The key is not too much. But that's true of
    anything.

Gaining strength does not necessarily (or even probably)
    mean you are gaining muscle.
