Despite the name erik44gary, I am actually a mechanically incompetent female..so I hope you'll excuse what is possibly a dumb question...
My son tells me the cones on my powertap wheel are loose and on checking it I find that the ?lock ring on the non drive side is not even finger tight.
Can this be fixed by my usually trusty bike mechanic (who knows nothing about powertap wheels) or will it be risking the electronics?
Or are there step by step instructions anywhere???

A bike shop can snug that up for you. The electronics are not affected by removal of the axle, and I have had to re-tighten mine several times (have heard the same from others as well).
There are instructions in your booklet. If you have an incompetent mechanic, find a new one.
I don't know how old your PT is, but recent models do not have cones. You'll need (however) a cone wrench and a 5mm hex key to tighten the ND side nut.

Is that just for the SL? My PT Pro is 1-yr old, and it has a cone on one side and sealed bearings on the other.

thanks guys..its the most recent model SL 2006.
I'l have to ask my son how he picked ithe problem because I certainly didn't..so that makes me not only incompetent but also insensitive!

An insensitive female? :eek: Do you have any sisters? (j/k - happily married to a 'sensitive' one 😄 )
My hub got so loose that I could wiggle the wheel back and forth at the top by a few millimeters while it was securely held in the dropouts by the skewer. It was obvious when changing the wheel between bikes, but not something I noticed while riding (I'm not *that* sensitive).

You are right. OP was not clear. Pro has a cone..SL has all sealed bearings.
I just noticed yesterday one of the end nuts was lose on my PT SL. I simply tightened it using the Saris instructions with a 17 mm cone wrench and my $20 Craftsmen torque wrench. Works fine now. If you don't feel like touching your hub, I imagine most LBS should be able to tighten it for you for about $5-$10. Good lick!

Thanks..I went to my LBS who fixed it..no charge.
Once I was happy it was just a mechanical thing and the electronics were not involved, I did what all people with my mechanical skills do...I delegated! However I'm still searching for instructions in what paperwork I've got , but as I bought mine NIB off ebay, I may be missing some instructions
