middle/lower top line such as the Raleigh Pro or Specialized or Giant.

You would think for $4,500 that it wouldn't be so crappy. Did you even

Tom, That bike as posted in that link has carbon fiber as
well as Dura-Ace 10 speed. Sounds and looks race-ready to me
(even though it's not a Trek).

No, as a matter of fact I went on the name since Norco had been selling some
pretty mediocre stuff with all sorts of advertising claims. But since you
insist I did look. That bike is probably priced about twice at what it's
worth if you want the same sort of quality from a local bike store. If
that's the sort of thing you're looking for I still recommend you take a
trip down to your local bicycle shop.

It also matters what you intend to use the bike for. Aluminum frames with
carbon fiber stays make me nervous but if your intent is to race for a year
or two and get a new bike it doesn't matter. Carbon stays socketed into
aluminum is asking for electrolysis and eventual failure is there's any
water present.

If you want a bike that you'll ride for many years you can look for a steel
frame with perhaps a carbon fork. The fork softens the ride quite amazingly.
And buying a bike that is sold by your local dealer is always better than
trying to buy something for a bike no one has ever heard of.

They had a booth at Sea Otter and the road bike really was as super light as
they claimed. They had a scale with the bike on it just as it came out of
the carton. Wow!

It got high rates at two different tests, from German "Tour" and Dutch
"Fiets" magazine. Fiets tested the frame's stiffness (bb, front tube)
and concluded that only the Scott C1 did better on weight-stiffness
ratio, but that frame alone costs as much as this complete bike.

But I don't know the bike from experience, could very well be that it
has a built-in fail device triggered by guarantee expiration date, like
Bianchi.

Yeah, it's not DuraAce 10 speed but then many of the people I've
talked to that have it are unhappy with the way it shifts. I've got a
DuraAce 9 speed that shifts spot on up and down.

That's pretty funny Ewoud and something that I was just hearing from the
local racers as well.
