  1. I'm looking for interesting and unusual recipes for ice
cream. I just bought an ice cream maker (Krups) and tonight
I'm going to start with Creole cream cheese ice cream. I'd
also like to try green tea ice cream. I have recipes for
both of these - but I'm open to hearing about other
    interesting ideas!

Why not try good basic recipes before going for the exotic?
If you got the Cuisinart ice cream maker there is an
excellent recipe for chocolate ice cream. I have had one of
those machines for a little over a year and a half and the
chocolate recipe has consistently great with great flavour
and wonderful consistency. Gran Marnier works very nicely.
Just make the basic vanilla custard and add some Gran
Marnier near the end of freezing.

Go to this link for some unusual ones. I think I've only
made the lavendar ice cream. It was excellent.

The reason I decided to get the machine was that I had
managed to fall in love with ice cream flavors that I
couldn't find in any stores. I really want to take advantage
of that by making stuff I couldn't buy.

Tonight I made my first batch - the creole cream cheese
    flavor - and it's awesome.

I understand that. That's a large part of why I knit and
    why I make jams/jellies/preserves/pickles. We got a
double barrelled ice cream maker and have enjoyed using
it to make flavors we don't get in the store, although we
aren't quite as adventurous as you are. We made a sour
cherry sorbet that was heavenly. I also make a kiwi lime
sorbet and an apple-calvados ice cream that is wonderful
over warm apple pie, both from Lou Pappas book on ice
    creams and sorbets.

Rose ice cream IMHO virtually defines "exotic". The flavour
is so sophisticated and alluring, and so *very* different
from anything you'll find at the supermarket, that you'll
imagine you've been transported to Persia. Look up the post
"A great end to a great feast: Rose ice cream" in DejaNews
for the complete recipe. Optionally, you can also add some
unsalted pistachios if you like - this would be typical of
    what they do in Iran/Persia.

Also often made with goat's milk. I've made it several times
    and it was delicious.

Jen, I'll type it up for you tomorrow. It comes out of the
"Beat That" or the "Beat This" cook book. It is
INCREDIBLE!!! The color can be a bit disarming to some but
doesn't bother me. Picture light Colonial Blue with a splash
    of sage green stirred
in. The flavor though will blow you away. Soooooooo smooth
    and creamy...!

Well, my idea was to create a non-dairy, sugar-free-yet-naturally-
sweetened ice cream. The results were edible, but not great.
If anyone can improve on it, be my guest. If anything,
reading this may provide some inspiration or ideas.

Here's something different -- I haven't tried it yet, but
it's high on the list of things to be made when I get a new
ice cream maker (I'm not keen on ice cream relying on
    whipped cream for texture).

Homemade Wasabi Ice-cream 16 oz milk 3 eggs 4oz castor sugar
2 pints of whipping cream 4 tbsp of green wasabi powder

Mix milk and wasabi powder. (Amount of wasabi powder can be
varied for desired effect.) Heat the milk. Beat together
eggs and sugar. Add the hot milk, stirring continuously.
Return to pan and cook without boiling until custard coats
the back of a wooden spoon. Strain, cover and cool.

Whip the cream and add it to the custard. Chill and freeze.

The mixture must be frozen quickly and whisked well. Chill
utensils beforehand and crank up freezer to coldest 1/2 hour
before making. Place the mixture in a tray, freeze for 1/2
hour and whisk well in a chilled bowl. Replace in the tray
and put back into the freezing compartment.

Sure thing! I am away from the book and holding a 12 day
old infant who _just_ fell asleep after waking an hour
and a half ago, so not tonight, but I will do it. It was
pretty simple, but I don't trust my memory right now.
